It’s Carrie Bradshaw sans Manolo’s! So…how does that work?

We don’t know about you, but we can’t imagine any TV character we’d rather get to dress other than Carrie Bradshaw. Why? Her sense of style transitioned in all sorts of the envy-inducing ways.

Carrie Bradshaw left the small screen. Then went to the big screen. (Eh.) Then went to the big screen again. (Meh.) And now she’s on the small screen …again. And this means someone new gets to dress this living doll on The CW’s The Carrie Diaries.

Young miss Carrie Bradshaw (AnnaSophia Robb) now looks swimmingly fabulous thanks to the efforts of costume designer Eric Daman.

For the uneducated, on HBO’s Sex and the City, Sarah Jessica Parker was dressed by Patricia Field. The looks were legendary, iconic, perfect. Who didn’t rush out to get the gold name necklace or the giant flower pins? She’s a tastemaker. Which means the role of her stylist is loaded with pressure. You don’t want to be the person known for trying to make harem pants a new thing.

Young Carrie is growing up in the 80’s on this CW series, so Eric Daman is presented with a very specific challenge of making the fashion both authentic and relevant to modern fashionistas.

Daman just spent six years dressing Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively) and Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester).

To create the high school wardrobe, Daman is using items from Etsy shops, vintage pieces, and the like. But will she be fabulous without the high end labels? Damon told the New York Post that, “Creating Carrie as a teenager, it’s an amazing process. She has a fashion sense that is her own.”

The Carrie Diaries premieres this winter on The CW, starring Anna Sophia Robb. The executive producers are Miguel Arteta, Candace Bushnell, Len Goldstein, Amy B. Harris, Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz.
