Kate Gosselin of "Jon & Kate plus 8"

After the jump is a transcript of the majority of the Kate Gosselin interview on “Live with Regis and Kelly” on ABC. I’ll post video later once it hits the interwebs. Highlights include the Kate Gosselin Halloween costume and a story about Kate reading her tabloid stories in a grocery store. Lowlights include Regis being kind of a douchebag.

Kelly lobs Kate a nice softball at first, asking about her trendy haircut. Seriously, it’s like The Rachel from 1996. Apparently there’s a Halloween costume of Kate, complete with wig. She says going to put it on a friend to try to fool the paparazzi, which leads into a discussion about all the cameras. Kate used to tell the kids that people were taking their picture because they kids are really cute or because they were helping them make photo album memories, but now the kids know what the paparazzi is.

For the show, Kate says it’s going to be more of Kate & the kids then Jon & the kids but she holds out hope there will be times when they’re all together, particularly holidays.

At this point, Regis has interrupted her a couple of times, which makes me want to smack his smarmy face. He then starts telling her that he was unaware of the show until recently, but he watched it in preparation for her coming on “Live.” Well, that’s big of him. He then lays this gem on her:

“I just have a feeling like I think the separation is going to come to an end and I think he’s going to come back and he’s going to say, ‘Please marry me again’ and I think you’re going to live happily ever after. Now what do you think of that?”

Kate is clearly very surprised and says, “Wow. [to Kelly] Um, he’s an optimist … we definitely have different goals at this point. A lot has changed, a lot of unexpected things have come up. It’s not ideal. I can’t say that I think you’re right at all.”

Regis: If he came back tomorrow and said, “Let’s put the cast behind us, I want to spend my life with you and kids,” what would you say?
Kate: You know, I don’t think I can answer that …  a lot of our lives are public but a lot is private as well so anything that you see, it has been very, very much filtered. What you see… I want to use my kids as a yardstick and what you see is what I want them to see. It’s not necessarily all of it.
Regis: Well, don’t you think all of this would come to an end if the show stopped and you just led a normal life where cameras didn’t hound you every minute of the day?
Kate: We can only go forward, this is our means for providing for our family and no, I don’t think it would all go away at this point.

Commercial.

After the commercial break, apparently somebody had a talking-to with Regis because he reins it in considerably. Kate shares a story about being at the grocery store:

One day I horrified this poor woman. I walked up and I was just in this crazy mood and one story had written that I’d had all this plastic surgery fro head to toe and I pulled the magazine off the rack and opened it up and my security guy is going, “Put it away” and I’m saying out loud, “I didn’t know I had botox! Why idn’t somebody tell me?” and this lady is going, “Stop it” and she was clearly horrified and I go, “You know what, if you dont’ laugh, you’ll cry.”

The interview ends with Kate talking about no set schedule with Jon, they just work around their different obligations and that they work well together with the kids.  She reassures us that she does live in the house with kids, not in some apartment somewhere. Kate ends by saying, “This is certainly not the life I envisioned for myself, but what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, so I’m going to be plenty strong.”
