Here’s the gist:

Katherine: …Dammit, they know my secret. They know I’m Katherine, and not Elena.

Katherine proceeds to trick them.

Stefan and Damon: Hm. Why did that happen? Wait. She knows that we know.

Fans: But she doesn’t know that you know she knows!

In fact, I half expected Caroline to do her best impersonation of Phoebe…

You KNOW she could pull that off…
