| January 2, 2015 at 10:31 PM ESTOkay kids, let’s jump right into the fashion from our favorite new Bravo scripted series, yes?
Girlfriends Guide to Divorce Fashion Blog- Season 1, Episode 1
GG2D “Rule No. 23: Never Lie to the Kids”
Abby (Lisa Edelstein) is wearing:
Roberto Cavalli black dress with cap sleeves
Steve Madden tan T-strap heels
Girlfriends Guide to Divorce Fashion Blog Review:
It’s not that I have anything against Cavalli (God, why would I?) but I’m not a fan of this dress in this scene. Maybe not at all. …It’s not terrible. I’m all for Abby (Lisa) showing off cleavage when she wants, but somehow the dress doesn’t do it in a very flattering way. The white stitching detail also reminds me of denim…and the entire effect just seems kind of choppy, moreso than cohesive. All in all, the eye is pulled to the books more than her. And who want THAT? The spotlight (and the breakdown) is all hers!
Abby (Lisa Edelstein) is wearing:
Dress from Roland Mouret dress
Steve Madden stilettos
BCBG faux croc clutch
Phoebe (Beau Garrett) is wearing:
Gucci jumpsuit
Nine West stilettos in silk
Miztique clutch purse
Lyla (Janeane Garafalo) is wearing:
Haute Hippie tank
Fire Los Angeles midnight waxed jeans
BCBG marabou jacket
Mimosa suede booties
Girlfriends Guide to Divorce Fashion Blog Review:
I could never wear that jumpsuit, but I am no less than entirely obsessed with how cool the vibe is when Lyla wears it. It’s perfect for her, seriously. Did Gucci MAKE that just for Beau Garrett? I’d believe it.
Abby’s dress is fine, but I can’t help but feel like those shoes are trying too hard to be trendy. And it’s a no-duh thought when you see that they’re by Steve Madden. You should not be wearing that brand when you’re over 25. Sorry, guys. HOWEVER, given Abby’s storyline…these are exactly the shoes I imagine she’d select. So the costume designer did very well! Also, that neckline (which Abby wears a lot) is really a flattering way for her to go ‘sexy’ and is another smart choice.
And then, we have a similar issue when we get to Lyla. The show was given these…young brands, to work with. Not that the brand labels are new, but that they design young. I kind of like that Lyla’s outfit is eccentric and dark and moody just like her. But I’m not sure that I…like the outfit, necessarily. I mean…it’s fun. Especially with the glasses, hah! I might wear it, actually. Flounce about.
Abby (Lisa Edelstein) is wearing:
Haute Hippie shirt
Rag & Bone jeans
Isabel Marant jacket
Barney’s Co-OP booties
Fossil red tote bag
Lyla (Janeane Garafalo) is wearing:
JOIE blouse
Zara leather pencil skirt
La Canadienne boots
Aldo bag
Phoebe (Beau Garrett) is wearing:
Forever 21 lace crop top
Free people peasant skirt
Sam Edelman boots
Maje messenger bag
Girlfriends Guide to Divorce Fashion Blog Review:
I’m going to keep it simple here: I love each of these outfits for how perfectly they suit the characters. So bang-on. The most interesting one here is what Lyla’s wearing, but it’s also what makes her such a captivating character. She’s free and sexy, she’s like this hippie Mother without any of the “crunchy” elements. Boho? Maybe. And it’s inspiring as a state of mind, to be zen. (But don’t worry, I’m not particularly inspired to wear a fringed lace top. It’s JANUARY, people. Here’s a hint: I don’t live where it’s warm.)

I want your input! Did you enjoy the commentary? More importantly, will you offer your OWN commentary now? Agree, disagree? Can we agree that the lace crop top is pretty – EVEN if it’s from Forever 21, and EVEN if you, yourself, might never wear it? (Unless you’re 18, maybe then you’re all about it.) I DON’T KNOW YOUR LIFE. But I want to. Imagine my palms cupping my chin. Tell me your life story. No, really. I want to hear it. (At least about your most embarrassing outfits. I’ll start. My Mother put me in these teal stirrup pants during fourth grade…)
