What was the man in black’s name on Lost? I know!

There were some mysteries that Lost didn’t ever solve for us – even if the writer’s claimed to have known the answers. Well, now that the finale has aired (if you haven’t seen it yet, what have you been doing?!) we have our first chunk of “after the fact” questions answered. Kristin Dos Santos of E! was told many answers, and gave a sort of mini press conference/Q&A to tell people. I don’t know why people connected with the show wouldn’t have preferred to do it. But there you go.

My theory about who likes the Lost finale is that if you watched all six seasons, you can appreciate it. If you were only someone who slightly knew about Lost, you only cared about the answers to the big questions about polar bears and the smoke monster. The finale couldn’t be very satisfying for those people, especially if they didn’t watch and just want a quick “So what was Lost about?” You can’t wrap up the show so easily. I’ve already said, it was the journey and not the destination. So, uh, I’ll say it again!

What happened to Walt?
We’ll find out on the Lost season 6 DVD. Ha, guess you gotta buy it now! Or just wait and watch the DVD extra on Youtube…

What was the Man in Black’s name?
He had a name that was used in scripts, and it was Samuel. It means “Man of God” in Hebrew. His name was not Esau – many thought it was Jacob and Esau, twins from the bible.

Who was the Kwon on the cave wall?
Jin, Sun was crossed out when she became a mother.

What did 108 on the lighthouse mean or represent?
If it did represent someone, no one knows. The people on the show told Kristen it was “irrelevant”.

How did Eloise know everything?
We have no clue.

What was seeing the plane crash at the end of the finale?
It looked like B role, and they just gave a nod to the beginning of the show. It was not indicative that everyone had been dead from the very beginning of the show. I think perhaps it was showing the island after the finale, and how all of that stuff is still there.

Why did the weather change when Jack and the MIB fought?
The protector of the island can affect the weather, so emotional dictates the island.

What do the numbers on Lost mean?
They were representative of the candidates, and also a symbol of what would happen if evil came out of the island – such as when we saw Hurley using those numbers. Each candidate was written alongside a number: 4 – Locke, 8 – Reyes, 15 – Ford, 16 – Jarrah, 23 – Shephard, 42 – Kwon.

There was no big payoff for the numbers. But we also know that they are the Valenzetti Equation. According to the 1975 orientation film for the Dharma Initiative the Valenzetti Equation “predicts the exact number of years and months until humanity extinguishes itself.”  Alvar Hanso said that the radio transmitter on the Island would “broadcast the core numerical values of the Valenzetti Equation.” The numbers were  values to the core environmental and human factors of the Valenzetti Equation. Hanso said The Dharma Infinitive wanted to change any of the numbers so that doomsday wouldn’t come.

What are the Lost numbers?
Haven’t you memorized them already? 4 8 15 16 23 42. Add them up and you get 108!
