Weeds Season 7 Music Guide: ‘Object Impermanence’
| August 8, 2011 at 6:15 AM EDTMellow, beautiful and a little bit sad – the music in last week’s episode of Weeds has us contemplating the past. The two musical selections in “Object Impermanence” were “Adrift In Space, Or Whatever” by Electric President and “Doubtful Comforts” by Blue Roses.
Weeds Season 7 Music
Song: “Adrift in Space, Or Whatever” by Electric President
Significance of the Lyrics: Hey now, there are no lyrics. But that says a lot, itself. It’s an eerie tune that is relaxing and unsettling at the same time. It makes me think that things are not right in the world, as though I were walking through Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory.

Song: “Doubtful Comforts” by Blue Roses
Significance of the Lyrics:
The first part of the song starts out wistful. When you talk about hope, I’m sure there is a lot of different hopes that Nancy, Shane, Silas, Andy and Doug all had for their lives. Nancy is constantly trying to reassure her family that everything is okay, but it’s never really been true. It’s just been a downward spiral.
“You’re so good at getting my hopes up
Where they don’t belong
I can’t reach them.”
When you look to the past, you see it with romantic eyes sometimes. Shane, in making up Nancy’s old bedroom, seems to be romanticizing and idealizing the past. He didn’t want to let go of it. And I’m sure all of our characters have an ideal future in their mind, some place safe and stable.
“This is the view that appears in my mind
Covered with orange lights
That I’ve seen countless times.”
But these characters are moving around every season in drastic ways. And for the show itself, many people were angry when Weeds went on the road and left Agrestic. Suddenly it was cool to hate on the show, saying it jumped the shark.
And in another sense, the Botwin family just wants another chance. And no one they meet could ever guess at all of their troubles.
When can we find a place where we’ll stay for a while?
‘Till we come back in style
Oh, they don’t know the half of it”
