VIDEO: Shark Week swims onto TVs| August 2, 2009 at 2:00 PM EDT
2009 marks the 21st year of Shark Week and our friends at TV.com have the schedule for next week’s broadcasts and a video preview of “Blood in the Water.” I love Shark Week. I think it’s the best thing the Discovery Channel does all year. Jaws is my favorite movie. If you’re a fan, try to find “Left for Dead: The Story of the USS Indianapolis.” It’s an absolutely terrific book about the sinking of the USS Indianapolis, which is the story in Quint’s famous monologue on the Orca.
SCHEDULE for Shark Week 2009:

Sunday, August 2, 9 p.m.
Steven Spielberg’s Jaws was based on a string of shark attacks that occurred in 1916. Watch Blood in the Water to find out what really happened.

Survivorman Les Stroud gets a kick out of near-death experiences. Watch as the “survival expert” investigate the world’s deadliest shark-infested waters.

Shark attack survivors discuss their dangerous encounters.
Tuesday, August 4, 9 p.m.
The sudden surge in shark attacks during the summer of 2001 was inexplicable. Sharkbite Summer takes a look at those bloody months.

Most people would prefer to swim far away from Great Whites. In Great White Appetite, a few intrepid scientists try to get a closer look.

Want to know more about the normal, drama-less life of sharks? Catch an underwater glimpse of sharks after nightfall.
