Listen, so much happened in The Vampire Diaries season 2 that a re-watch of this amazing season is practically mandatory for most fans. And if that wasn’t enough of a reason to pick up a copy on DVD or Blu-ray (available on August 30th!), you can’t forget the priceless special features that come along with the 22 action, angst and romance-packed episodes.

Let it be known that I love the entire Vampire Diaries cast and crew, but Candice Accola (and then Zach Roerig, complete in nerd glasses) really steal the spotlight for the special features. (And I’m not even the one on this TV blog that does the episodic TVD recaps based around Caroline Forbes  – “The Caroline Forbes Focus” – that’s Madison Coe. Check out her Candice Accola Fansite, natch!)

Now, there’s plenty to love about everyone both in the episodes and the special features. From Ian Somerhalder to Julie Plec, everyone is amazing. And speaking of those special features, what do you say we give you a sneak peek?

Official Description: They’re back – and they’re not alone. In Season 2, Elena, Stefan, Damon and the other residents of Mystic Falls are joined by a sinister new breed. Released from the tomb, Katherine unleashes her personal brand of evil in a diabolical plot. The Originals – the world’s oldest and most dangerous vampires – hunt for Elena, who discovers she has a terrifying connection to their world. And now vampires aren’t the only monsters in town. On moonlit nights, werewolves roam in search of victims…including vampires, who succumb to a single werewolf bite.

The Vampire Diaries Season 2 DVD Review / The Vampire Diaries Season 2 DVD Special Features

Pages of the Wolf: Three Featurettes:  The Myth & The Mystery (Werewolf Lore), Building the Beasts (Working with Actual and Mechanical Wolves) and Howling at the Moon (Michael Trevino’s Transformative Makeup Process)
Her Own Worst Enemy…Elena, Katherine and Nina! Nina Dobrev Rises to the Challenge of Playing Two Roles on The Vampire Diaries. And you can’t expect that would be easy! She plays the girl next door Elena Gilbert, and the femme fatale Katherine Pierce. When Nina Dobrev auditioned, neither her nor the people in charge knew she’d end up also playing Katherine. In this segment Dobrev, Kevin Williamson, and Julie Plec, and talented cast and crew members all give their thoughts about how often Dobrev is utilized. In one episode she was playing 4 different people. Can you guess which episode that is? You’ll also get to see exactly how Dobrev manages to play two characters on the screen.
The Perfect Love Triangle: Vampires, Werewolves, Witches: Setting the Record Straight on Who’s Nibbling on Whom for the First Two Seasons: Both cast and crew discuss the complicated romances on the show. Who does Katherine really love in the past? Did Stefan kiss Katherine by accident this season? Candice Accola has the cutest quotes in this bit as she impersonates how Damon thinks. And hey, Ian Somerhalder has an idea for a new love triangle! Get the scoop!
Unaired Scenes: Deleted Scenes are always a highlight. Here, you’ll learn that both Katherine and Elena share June 22nd as a birthday.
Audio Commentary on “Masquerade”: Executive Producers Kevin Williamson & Julie Plec lend their voices and wisdom to the commentary for this amazing season 2 episode. The downside is that this is the only commentary track for the season.
Second Bite AKA Gag Reel: What can you say? You can’t say anything, you just have to watch! But, okay – a tease? Nina Dobrev sounding like a chicken, people almost falling into wells, cast members caressing each other, Alaric on twitter, sets breaking, bugs attacking Candice Accola… It clocks in under 3 minutes and I really wish it was longer.
A Digital Copy: Blu-ray copies let’s you upload the season onto your iPad or iPhone. TVD, on the go!

Big love to Warner Bros entertainment and Retrofit Films
