True Blood “Hopeless” Review – Season 5 is wacky…
| July 16, 2012 at 2:43 PM EDTLet me just start off by saying I’m not entirely clear on what’s going on here.
Not even just this episode of True Blood, but some of the storylines in general. I did like “Hopeless” but mainly because there was some shirtless Alcide (I can’t help it, I’m a girl) but I really was confused about certain parts. Take Lilith, for example.
It seems to me that both the Mainstreamers and the Sanguinuistas worship her. Or at least they both view her as “god.” But how can that be when the two parties believe in such very different ideas? Are the Sanguinuistas like a radical religious sect who believe in the same god as other vampires, but just have their views all twisted? Someone explain it to me!
And I think now we can safely assume that at least some of the council were/are playing double agents since Salome looked mighty troubled at the thought of immediately killing Russell oh and what with Kibwe speed-slaughtering Russell’s intended victims. But why the charade? Maybe some of the Authority want Sanguinuista rule but they want to do it secretly and Russell royally screwed that up by his little live performance on TV? So now they have to get Russell out of the way and make it look like vampires want to play nice with humans? Seriously, I have no idea what’s going on.
I did always think Roman was going about things the wrong way though. For someone who wanted peace he seemed awfully violent. The Buffy the Vampire Slayer quote from season 3’s episode “The Prom” comes to mind:
“I’m gonna give you all a nice, fun, normal evening if I have to kill every person on the face of the Earth to do it.”
Roman just never struck me as a pacifist (unlike Eric). However, I wasn’t ready to see him die. Boo to that.
Another burgeoning storyline I’m having trouble with is the random killing of the sups. It’s illegal to kill vampires, isn’t it? And I imagine if werewolves and shifters were known to the whole world it would be illegal to kill them as well. So these crazy mask-wearing, gun-toting, truck-driving a-holes are just plain serial killers? Even though I personally adore vamps, I understand some people maybe not loving them so much. After all, they do eat us. (Well, some of them.) But what does a shifter do to cause harm?
And good grief who is this mysterious vampire who killed Sookie’s parents? Actually, as long as it’s not Bill, I’m not too concerned. Can you imagine the drama that would bring??
Like I keep saying, I’m in the dark here about what’s going on and what’s going to happen. However, I did love seeing Ruby Jean as she’s always a trip, and it’s starting to bug me how Pam is treating Tara. I really want them to get along! Also, if anyone is looking for birthday present ideas for me (even though it’s not until October) I now very much want my own baby wolf cub.
