We Ranked: The Vampire Diaries Soundtrack Songs
| September 16, 2010 at 11:27 AM EDTThe Vampire Diaries soundtrack gets big points for variety. You’ll get a serving of well-known acts like the Smashing Pumpkins, Placebo and Gorillaz, a healthy dose of emotionally in-touch female pov’s from Plumb and Alison Sudol of A Fine Frenzy, plus instrumental’s and some remixes that are bound to sound effortlessly cool if you play them while driving down a dark, abandoned road. (Not that we suggest doing that without vervain.)
TVD Soundtrack is available for pre-order on Amazon and has a release date of October 12, 2010.

We love the entire, dark mood and romantic collection. But here are our favorites, in order of most favorite to least:
Bloodstream (TVD Remix) – Stateless (A lovely piece of music that makes us feel powerfully insightful into our own lives and relationships.)
Hammock – Howls (We could play this over and over. And in fact, we did.)
Down – Jason Walker (Beautifully sad. But in a good way, weirdly. Sometimes sad is beautiful.)
Sleep Alone (909s in the DarkTimes Mix) – Bat for Lashes (Addictivly creepy.)
Running Up That Hill – Placebo (Granted, it’s been overplayed. But it’s iconic of the show, and so mysterious every time.)
The Fellowship – Smashing Pumpkins (The Smashing Pumpkins can really do no wrong.)
Obsession – Sky Ferreira (She’s good, but the strong hype almost turned us off.)
Cut – Plumb (This might have been higher up on the list if this song hadn’t come out on an album we bought in 2006, and thusly have heard a million times already. It’s overplayed for Plumb fans, but a great addition and discovery for those who weren’t familiar with Plumb.)
All You Wanted – Sounds Under Radio (The lyrics are incredibly appropriate for the Salvatore Brothers.)
Beauty of the Dark – Mads Langer (Powerful lyrics.)
We Radiate – Goldfrapp (A good song with good energy.)
On Melancholy Hill (Feed Me Remix) – Gorillaz (A song we’d like to listen to on our ipods while walking through fields during sunset, towards a great destination.)
Currency of Love – Silversun Pickups (Just not a favorite. Meh.)
(Note: Songs not recently heard were left off the list.)
From the press release, about the Original Television Soundtrack:
Of the 16 songs on the album, all were heard in the first season of The Vampire Diaries or will be featured in Season 2. Like the hit show, the soundtrack also has a hip yet darkly compelling and sensuous vibe. From cool cover songs, including Placebo doing Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill” and Digital Daggers taking on Tears for Fears’ “Head Over Heels,” to the gorgeous vocals of “Sleep Alone” by Bat for Lashes to Sky Ferreira’s edgy dance-pop “Obsession,” The Original Television Soundtrack: The Vampire Diaries proves irresistible. “Obsession,” produced by Dave Tedder (OneRepublic, Beyoncé, Rihanna), is heard in the upcoming season of The Vampire Diaries, and is perfect for the show’s intense visuals and storylines, as Ferreira sings: “Here’s my confession, I don’t just want you to love me, I wanna be your obsession.” Ferreira, an LA-based Portuguese-American singer-songwriter and actress (Putty Hill), is currently working with Paul Epworth, Bloodshy & Avant, Dallas Austin and Linda Perry on her debut CD. “Obsession” The Original Television Soundtrack: The Vampire Diaries is Ferreira’s first international single release.
