Forget a replica, get the real thing.

Ohio has a part in The Hunger Games. More specifically jewelry designer Dana Schneider of Stark County. The only official version will be made by Schneider.

You can find her Etsy shop here and her website here. It is not available for sale from her Etsy shop, but we’ve gotten a tip that these pins made by Schneider are available for sale only in a shop that’s actually in Ohio.

Recognizing what a big deal her role in the movie is, Schneider talked to Canton Rep about how honored she is to be the jewelry designer involved with this Jennifer Lawrence film. “I was thrilled to be asked to make it. It’s integral to all three books,” she says. “It was actually very difficult to make. I’m quite proud of how it came out.”

But how does one end up designing one of the most important pieces of movie jewelry?

Dana Schneider attended Cranbrook Kingswood, a high school for the visual arts in Michigan. After that, she earned her B.F.A. from the Rhode Island School of Design. While there, she gave most of her attention to sculpture. It was after college, when she moved to NYC, that she focused on jewelry. She’s mostly self-taught.

Finally, she created her own line of jewelry in the 1980’s, and it was sold in small boutiques and even Barney’s. Later, in the 90’s she was inspired to design jewelry specifically for movies. She’s worked on jewelry pieces for movies like Hannibal, Tron, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon (she designed rings for Rosie Huntington Whitley), Green Hornet, X-Men 3, Fantastic Four, Terinator III, The Fast and the Furious, Elektra, Californication, The Hunger Games and The Green Lantern.

You’d be surprised at just how many people search for the Green Lantern ring at this jewelry blog. And if you want to know who designed the Green Lantern ring that Ryan Reynolds wore, it’s Schneider.
