This week’s episode of The Good Wife introduced us to a new character, said goodbye (fingers crossed) to an old one and revealed a little secret that I think we all hoped could have stayed a secret.

Trouble appears to be brewing for at least a few characters in “Battle of the Proxies.”

Before we get started, one thing – Cary Agos (Matt Czuchry) was only in one scene. ONE! That is completely unacceptable and I will not stand for it. Give me my Cary!!

Okay, beyond that, there were some nice forward movements on multiple plot fronts.

In Alicia’s home life, that pesky thing that search engines do when they remember old searches led to three uncomfortable conversations. When Alicia (Juliana Margulies) saw that someone had been looking up different types of condoms on her computer, she at first thought it was Zach (Graham Phillips), obviously. It wasn’t, which led to an even more awkward conversation with Grace (Makenzie Vega) who assured her mother it was not her, and that she is still a good girl. But Zach, always there to help out with his mom’s computer needs, looked up the computer’s internet history. The site used right before the condom search – Jackie’s e-mail. *shudder* Poor Peter is going to have an issue on his hands. And it seems he is already busy, but we will get to that in a second.

I am not a Grace fan, and I know I’m not alone, but I have to say, I am enjoying where her story line is going. Sure, I’ll get annoyed with it eventually, but the scene this week where she looked at all her papers graded as “Good” or “Very Good” – a moment highlighted by her assuring her mother she is still a “good girl” – was a great scene. I think a lot of teenage girls who have been labeled as “good” will eventually start to question the benefit of it. And if it means more Connor – I’m all for it.

But back to her dad, Peter (Chris Noth), who no one has probably ever labeled as good. While he may not have been seen this week, his story certainly took a huge turn. A guy from the justice department, David LaGuardia (Hamish Linklater, who I find to be completely delightful) sought out Eli (Alan Cumming) to discuss any possible issues there may have been with illegal campaign contributions to his wife’s campaign. With a little help from Diane (Christine Baranksi) and that pic of Eli and Kalinda (Archie Panjabi) from the Fed’s apartment, Eli discovered David was really more interested in Peter’s campaign and anything going on there. So interested, in fact, that at the end of the episode he was raiding their campaign headquarters. I started to rack my brain thinking if we’d already seen anything incriminating. I’ll tell you what though – it’s looking less and less like Peter Florrick is going to be the next fictional governor of Illinois.

I’m going to be honest with you. I did not care one iota about the case of the week. But it doesn’t matter – it’s point was twofold. One – Just another opportunity where Alicia was forced to question her morals when she realized the defendant she was working so hard to free actually killed the girl he was charged with killing. Two – setting up an inevitable romantic interlude between Will (Josh Charles) and Laura (Amanda Peet), which in turn will probably also force Alicia to question her morals when she gets a raging case of jealousy. The only thing I really enjoyed was seeing Stephen Root again as Judge Wicks and seeing Becky Ann Baker (the mom from HBO’s Girls) as opposing council. Other than that… eh. Whatevs. On to that other story which is mercifully ending. Maybe.

And here is my version of what happened to Nick last night. Basically – it’s if you just explain the subtext of every conversation involved in the story line  because no one every really said anything directly:

Nick (Marc Warren) told Alicia that Cary was being a bit of a drag and threatening him about exposing his whole transporting drugs side business. Alicia said they couldn’t be his lawyer anymore because they hate him. Nick said that’s fine, but he’ll kill her if she tells anyone. Alicia says, whatever I don’t care, but then says to Kalinda that she thinks her psycho husband may brutally murder her and her family, is that bad? Kalinda says it’s no biggie because she’s got this. Then she tells Nick she’s called the cops about the drugs, she hates him, get out. Nick says no way Jose. Kalinda shows up to see Alicia and says Nick is gone for good. Alicia wonders, along with the rest of us, if Kalinda just killed her husband. Aaaaand scene.

So what do you think Kalinda’s “plan B” was? Murder seems a bit much. Hopefully we will find out soon. Preferably, when she sits and tells Cary and Alicia the whole detailed story over a bottle of Tequila as Alicia goes back and forth between giggles and looks of judgment and Cary just continuously gives his seemingly endless versions of his smirk.

What do you think we are in for in the second half of season 4? Could things get any worse for Peter? Will Alicia’s head explode if she finds out about Laura and Will?
