The Big C Quotes: Perfect for Daily Inspiration
| August 26, 2010 at 12:41 PM EDTHave you recognized Showtime’s new show with Laura Linney (The Big C) as a gem yet? I really and truly hope so. It’s an inspiring, and yet totally realistic sort of series. Normally, I don’t jive the idea of reality as inspiration (come on, reality sucks), but I’m making an exception with this show.

The Big C Quotes:
Time to get real: “Cancer sucks. Put that on a goddamn inspirational poster.” – Cathy
Time to break the rules: “I’m burning my couch in the backyard on Friday if you want to come over for a bonfire.” – Cathy
Time to grow up: “It’s hard not to treat you like a child when every time I make you a sandwich you ask me to cut the crusts off your bread.” – Cathy
Time to tell it like it is: “You can’t be fat and mean, Andrea. You can either be fat and joyous or a skinny bitch. It’s up to you.” – Cathy
Time to have a sense of humor: “I’m here all year. Performing at stage four.” – Cathy
Time to meet the neighbors: “If you think you’re going to make it at least one more day…do your neighbors a favor and mow your f-ing grass.” – Cathy
Time to get weird: “You wear baggies for shoes. You are so not allowed to call me embarrassing.” – Cathy
Time to be a parent: “From now on, I’m going to raise you so hard your head is going to spin.” – Cathy
Time to make some noise: “See, what’s what I wanted you to do when you gave me the news. But I wanted even more tears. Maybe even a big snotty sob.” – Cathy
Time to get frisky: “I don’t know what I was thinking. But I don’t do this. I don’t have sex with guys I barely know in closets and places…behind stages…at school.” – Cathy
Time to soak up the moment: “That would be nice, wouldn’t it? For time to stand still.” – Cathy
(Note: The “Time to…” snippets are from Showtime, and they were written in the press package. I included them because I think it helps put each quote in some serious perspective.)
“Anyone ever seen The Patriot? Its depiction of the Revolutionary War is about 20% accurate, but even if you only absorb that much, you’ll still know more than 99% of the population. Also, Mel Gibson is medium good. Enjoy!” – Cathy
“I’m just gonna have desserts and liquor.” – Cathy
“I don’t wanna be the one to pick out a new couch. I wanna be the one to spill the fruit punch!” – Cathy
“Can we at least figure out what to tell Adam? Because right now, my story is: ‘Adam, your mom’s a meanie!'” – Paul
