As we go into The Bachelorette 2011 finale, it seemed like Ashley was going to pick J.P. and there would be some smooth sailing. But one of the biggest surprises of the night was how against J.P. Ashley’s family (specifically the sister) was. Read on for the juicy highlights of The Bachelorette finale recap.
“I don’t think he’s the one. I think he’s a great guy but… uh uh.” Ashley’s sister felt like J.P. was too old for her. “I feel like you’re a bit too much for him,” she added. Ashley started crying, but her sister kept going. “At first glance, and seeing you together…I don’t see it,” the sister said to J.P. Gulp. “I worry that you’re a little too serious for her. I think she might be too much for you.” Ashley finally erupted and said, “You’re being such a bitch!”
Ashley’s family brought up Brad! It’s kind of funny that now that Brad is single, they totally could have suggested she hunt him down. “I felt like I saw more of you when you brought Brad home,” Ashley’s sister said.
Ashley’s sister and Mom knew the whole Bentley situation. And the sister used good ol’ Bent as an example that Ashley’s gut feelings were not to be trusted. I have a sneaky feeling that throughout Ashley’s life, in work, love, family – people will always throw Bentley in her face. “You think we should order the pepperoni pizza? It’s the Bentley of pizza’s! We can’t trust what you feel! We’re getting mushroom!”
Ben is Vulnerable
“I see Ashley being herself,” Ashley’s sister said of her sister with Ben. For as much as I’m certain Ashley would pick J.P. I felt like she should pick Ben. When she’s with J.P. she’s trying to be the person she thinks she should be. When she’s with Ben, she’s perfect as-is. He later slayed me with his quote, “You read fairytales. You never think you’re going to be part of one.” Oh, Ben.
Ben is Devastated
As Ashley tried to tell Ben it wasn’t going to work, he interrupted her and did his proposal anyway. How devastating. “You can’t leave something like this on good terms. It’s not possible,” he told Ashley. “Right now I’m in utter shock and disbelief. … Good things don’t end unless they end badly.” He also said, “J.P. is a safer bet than me, and I think Ashley went safe today.”
With a quick fakeout that J.P. wasn’t certain of them, he did get down on one knee. And then the cheesy music played as we saw a montage of their times together on The Bachelorette.
