Taylor Swift performed the critic-bashing “Mean” for her 2012 Grammys performance.

For most of the event Swift wore a nude and gold sparkling Zuhair Murad dress, but for her Grammys performance she wore a banjo slung over her body, her hair in a dowdy side bride, and a very modest floral dress. Any one element of this could have been sweet, but all together it seemed more like a Halloween costume of someone trying to be Ellie May from The Beverly Hillbillies.

As for awards, Swift was nominated for Best Country Album (Speak Now) but lost out to Lady Antebellum for Own the Night. However, Swift won Best Country Song and Best Country Solo Performance for “Mean.”

The Civil Wars performed “Barton Hollow” before introducing Swift.

The Civil Wars and Taylor Swift will be on The Hunger Games soundtrack with the song “Safe and Sound.”
