The Voice 2013 Episode 5 Live Recap: Coaches Complete Their Teams| October 7, 2013 at 8:00 PM EST
Tonight The Voice 2013 coaches will finish building their Season 5 teams and then it’s on to the Battle Rounds. We’ll be recapping the performances tonight and for the rest of the season. So please follow along as we go and feel free to offer your own reviews and thoughts in our comments section.
Starting off tonight, Christina only has one artist spot left, Adam and Blake each have two spots left and Cee Lo has three remaining spots.
The Blind Auditions
Matt Cermanski, “Have A Little Faith In Me.” This returning auditionee gets off to an immediate good start and Adam gives him a near-immediate chair turn. A few moments later, Blake turns. And then Cee Lo decides to get in on the action. And it became very apparent that Matt has improved a lot since last season. His performance was soft and tender and he seems to be a natural for the stage. So what team is it going to be? Adam, Cee Lo or Blake? He goes with Team Adam.
Diego Roman Navaira, “Rebel Yell.” OK, a Billy Idol song with Billy Idol hair is a little much. And this guys’s attitude proves there’s a big difference between confidence and arrogance. He’s got a pretty solid rock sound and I could imagine him doing some pretty sweet stuff on the show, but I don’t see myself being a fan. And the coaches seem to have had a similar reaction because no one turns around.
Tamara Chaunice, “1+1.” It took about two notes for Christina to turn her chair for Tamara. I think it was a little quick, but Christina heard something she liked right away. Cee Lo shortly follows. Her performance was pretty solid. Like Cee Lo said, she didn’t give us too much, but just enough. So who will it be, Christina or Cee Lo? She goes with Team Cee Lo.
Brandon Chase, “Wanted.” Well, he’s charming. The girls will love this guy. He has the look, the persona and the voice. His voice is very effortless and natural. Blake turns his chair pretty early on. Then Cee Lo decides to give it a shot. So who does he go with? Cee Lo or Blake? He picks Team Blake.
Lupe Carroll, “If I Were A Carpenter.” This guy has a very unique sound. I don’t think anyone out there sounds like him. The coaches would be crazy to not put him on the show. Only Cee Lo turns, for some reason, so he’s now Team Cee Lo.
Grey, “Catch My Breath.” Yes, her name is Grey. JUST Grey even. So anyway. I think she’s boring. But Adam turns around right away, which is the theme of the night. When she finally starts showing her strength and range, Blake turns. She’s a pretty good singer, but I can see her being forgettable. Wait! Last minute chair turn from Cee Lo. So who does she go with? She picks Team Adam. And his team is full.
Dominic Scott Kay, “Easy.” Well he’s been in movies and his dad is a member of The Commodores. So he’d be perfect for this season of plants. He looks Hollywood and he kind of sounds it too. He’s a pretty solid performer, but I’m not so sure the song was right for him because the coaches were very reluctant to turn. Blake almost turned, but he didn’t. I’m kind of surprised he’s not moving on.
Michael Lynch, “Bailamos.” I loved this guy’s voice right away. His voice is crystal clear. I wonder if he’s too polished. He will need to show some vulnerabilities at some point to seem more legit for the show. If that makes sense. He got Christina to turn first, then Blake, then Cee Lo. So he has a decision to make. He goes with Team Christina. Her team is full.
Deanna Johnson, “Stars.” I’m not a fan of her voice. I’m not sure what she was going for but it didn’t work. No one turned for her. You can tell she can sing, too, but she focused too much on a gimmick.
Brian Pounds, “Wagon Wheel.” One of the few country singers from this season, Brian has a pretty solid sound and look and he’s a clear choice for Blake. But Cee Lo also decides to pull Brian onto his team. He goes with the clear choice and picks Team Blake. Blake’s team is complete.
Shawn Smith, “Chicken Fried.” This guy was pretty fun and since Cee Lo has been fighting Blake for a country artist all season, this was obviously his final chance. He’s the only one with a spot left and it’s 9:57 PM, so it’s safe to say Shawn is now Team Cee Lo.
Who were your favorites from the night and who do you think has the best team This season?
