The Voice 2013 Blind Auditions Episode 3 Recap: A Night Full Of Talent| October 1, 2013 at 12:02 AM EST
The Voice 2013 Blind Auditions continued Monday night as Adam, Blake, Christina and Cee Lo continued assembling their Season 5 teams. And there were some pretty strong acts. Let’s take a look at the standouts.
Ray Boudreaux, “Use Me.” He delivered immediately and why they all the coaches didn’t turn immediately is behind me. Maybe the song was a little slow and boring, but Ray’s talent is obvious. He’s got soul and that along with his look and his story will map him a hit. Blake and Cee Lo turn for Ray and in the end he goes with Team Blake.
Lina Gaudenzi, “Landslide.” Well, that was an interesting version of “Landslide.” I’ll try not to let that bother me. Especially since she’s got a great voice. There’s actually some X-tina in there. Which is interesting since Christina was the first one to turn. Blake also turned around, but Christina used their relatability to sway her onto her team.
Juhi, “Mercy.” I think she has an awkward look and even more awkward stage presence, but she’s a pretty solid singer. It was a bit karaoke until she started pulling out some runs and some other tricks. And she’s lucky she did because it was beginning to look like she wasn’t going to move on, but Xtina and Cee Lo turned their chairs. She’s a natural for Team Cee Lo and that’s the decision she makes.
Malford Milligan, “Let’s Stay Together.” He’s got a backstory that’s hard to ignore and he picked a great song, but it took him a while to get warmed up, so I was not surprised when no one turned their chairs around.
Justin Blake, “Sure Be Cool If You Did.” This guy pulled out a Blake Shelton song, so he gets bonus points for nerves. He sounds pretty good, but I found it a bit boring. Adam turned around and Blake didn’t. And since Adam is the only one to turn, that’s his team.
Timyra-Joi, “This GIrl Is On Fire.” I’m sort of sick of this song on The Voice, but this girl handled it pretty well. Christina turned her chair almost instantly and it looked as if she was going to be the only one, but Blake and Cee Lo turned at the last minutes. After some arguing, She goes with Team Christina. Good choice.
Monika Leigh. “The Thrill is Gone.” She got some sort of backsory for some reason that I think was supposed to represent someone struggling through life and music, but I didn’t get that. Luckily, her voice and presence were strong enough to make us overlook that stretch of a sob story. She got Adam, Cee Lo and Blake to turn, but which coach did she go with? Blake.
Zach Hinson. “Drunk On You.” I think this guy was much better than the guy who sang Blake’s song. I’m not sure why no one shared any interest in him. He should have gotten through.
Briana Cuoco, “You And I.” Kaley Cuoco’s sister was actually my favorite performance of the night. I like her look, her presence and her talent. I was happy to see Christina turn because I think they’d be a great match. But Cee Lo also turned his chair. So who did she go with? Team Xtina obviously.
George Horga Jr. “Treasure.” Well this guy is going to be a star. In some form or another. He has the most star power of anyone from this season hands down. I’m actually not sure why he hasn’t already landed something on his own. He has basically everything going for him. He’s highly marketable and his sound is very current. But for some strange reason he only got Cee Lo to turn his chair. So he’s Team Cee Lo.
Preston Pohl. “Electric Feel.” This guy’s backstory was annoying, but his voice is pretty sweet. It’s raspy and unique and just a lot of fun. I expect him to stick around for a long time. All the guys were interested in him, but who did he pick as his coach? Adam obviously.
