The Voice 2013: Best Of The Battles Week 1| October 18, 2013 at 9:00 AM EST
The Voice 2013 Battle Rounds are over for the week and we’ve got a few days until the next batch of battles start, so now is the perfect time to look back on the week and see which battles and artists were the best.
These are just in random order. I’m not really ranking them, just pulling out the best.
Grey and Nic Hawk perform “Domino”
I was digging Nic going into this battle, but it became pretty clear that Grey is someone the coaches, and probably producers, are pushing for. And that’s OK, because she’s a great singer. But I still preferred Nic in this battle. But regardless of who I preferred, it was a great battle all around. Grey won, but Blake stole Nic, so he’s still in it.
Amber Nicole and Timyra-Joi sing “Listen”
This was one of my favorite battles because I think “Listen” is a great song and an especially great song for singing competition shows. Mostly because of its power and the fact that it gives no room for error. If you can’t sing, then you can’t sing this song. Amber was the clear winner of the battle and that’s how it went down. But Timyra going home was hard to swallow. I wish someone had saved her.
Briana Cuoco and Jacquie Lee sing “House of the Rising Sun.”
I feel like Briana’s story is going to either hurt her or help her. I hope it doesn’t hurt her because she’s a great singer. In fact, she was the better singer during this solid battle. But Christina did not choose her as the winner. Blake did swoop in and steal her, though.
Monika Leigh and Ray Boudreaux perform “Some Kind of Wonderful.”
This was a terribly boring battle, but Monika and Ray are both great singers, so I couldn’t leave them out of this post. I’m glad they both get a chance to take on a more exciting song in the Knockout Rounds.
