The Voice 2013 Battle Rounds Part 3 Live Recap: The Battles Rage On| October 21, 2013 at 7:51 PM EST
The Voice 2013 Battle Rounds continue tonight as coaches Adam, Blake, Cee Lo and Christina work to edit their teams down for the upcoming Knockout Rounds.
But let’s not forget, they each also have two spots for steals. So there’ll be some team swapping going on tonight. As always, I’ll be reviewing each performance live. Be sure to follow along and feel free to offer up your own reviews in our comments section below.
Team Christina’s Josh Logan vs. Michael Lynch, “Harder To Breathe.” Eh. I’m not feeling this song for these two at all. I feel like Xtina is trying to doom them. Or at least one of them. But let’s see how the actual battle goes.
Josh had the immediate edge in the song because he has a voice that actually has a slight Adam Levine sound to it. Michael held his own, but you could tell he was far less confident than Josh and that’s going to hurt him. This just wan’t the right song for Michael and that’s unfortunate because I liked him a lot.
- My winner: Josh (only because he handled the song better, but I think Michael is more entertaining)
- Christina’s winner: Josh
- The Steal: Not used. He’s out.
Team Cee Lo’s George Horga Jr. vs. Juhi, “The Best I’ve Ever Had.” Well who knew Juhi was so cocky. I already knew she was annoying, but wasn’t aware of her cockiness. I can’t wait to see how this battle plays out.
Her fake, gimmicky voices is NOTHING compared to his legit singing voice. He sounded fantastic and she made me just want to hit mute. If you ask me, the winner of this battle is very obvious. But she’s got that ridiculous hook that people like for some reason.
- My winner: George. EASILY.
- Cee Lo’s winner: George
- The Steal: Adam steals her. Great, now I have to listen to her at least one more time. Probably more.
Team Blake’s Austin Jenckes vs. Brian Pounds, “To Love Somebody.” Finally a good song choice. One that might be out there but gives them the ability to make it their own and not try to copycat anyone.
This isn’t exactly a battle kind of song, meaning there won’t be any vocal throw downs, but it was a pretty solid battle. I think Austin has a more investing voice, but Brian is the better singer. This is a tough one. I think I’m going with more interesting this time around.
- My winner: Austin
- Blake’s winner: Austin
- The Steal: Not used. Brian is out.
Team Adam’s James Irwin vs. Matt Cermanski, “Counting Stars.” I’m not really familiar with this song, so I’m not sure if it’s a good song choice for them or not. We’re about to find out.
These guys are on pretty even grounds as far as talent goes. If I wasn’t looking at the TV, I couldn’t tell which one was singing. I couldn’t imagine picking a winner from one of these two. I think I’ll just go with Matt because I think he might be more versatile.
- My winner: Matt
- Adam’s winner: James
- The Steal: Not used. Matt is out.
Team Christina’s Destinee Quinn vs. Lina Guadenzi, “I’m Not Ready To Make Nice.” This is the best song the Dixie Chicks ever did (in my opinion), so I think this should be a good battle. Or not, based on the rehearsals.
Well Destinee sounds great, but she’s really hard to watch. She has a lot of weird mannerisms. But Lina seems to be rushing the song, so Destinee’s weirdness is forgettable. I think Lina is just kind of boring. But I think Destinee is hard to listen to. So I’m not really into either of these. And I had high hopes for this battle.
- My winner: Lina
- Christina’s winner: Destinee
- The Steal: Adam steals Lina.
Team Adam’s James Wolpert vs. Will Champlin, “Radioactive.” Oh look, it’s the battle of the annoying trendy glasses. Which pair of glasses will come out on top!?
James is just awkward. Will is an absolute natural. I mean James can sing, but his awkwardness should make this an easy decision by Adam. Will is just ready to go. He’s ready for an album. James still needs some work, I’d say. But that being said, this was a very solid battle. I could see both of them ending up still in the competition after this.
- My winner: Will
- Adam’s winner: James
- The Steal: Christina steals him. Good move.
