Heidi, who just celebrated her 40th birthday on June 1st, began her career in modeling back in 1992 when she entered a modeling contest by sending a Polaroid of herself to an ad in a German magazine. She won first place in the contest and earned a 3 year contract with International Metropolitan Agency. Putting her dreams of becoming a fashion designer on hold, she moved to New York and began working with Victoria’s Secret. She not only modeled for the lingerie giant, she also hosted several of their fashion shows. She reigned as “Victoria’s Secret Angel” for 13 years. Heidi has appeared on the covers of numerous magazines including Vogue, Elle and Marie Claire. She became known worldwide in 1998 when she was chosen for the cover of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue. In December 2004, Heidi finally realized her long-time dream of entering the world of fashion design. She co-developed, produced and hosted the critically and commercially successful reality television series Project Runway. The show and Heidi made history by becoming one of the first series to be nominated for an Emmy in the category of Outstanding Host for a Reality Program along with American Idol’s Ryan Seacrest and fellow America’s Got Talent judge Howie Mandel (Deal or No Deal). Heidi also has designed her own line of jewelry as well as a line of shoes for Birkenstock and New Balance. She contributed to developing a clothing line for Jordache Jeans and served as the spokesperson for the company. In addition to her new duties as judge on AGT, Heidi has also been host of “Germany’s Next Top Model”.
Heidi is the mother of 4 children. She recently ended her marriage to British singer Seal, who is the father of 3 of her children. She has done commercials for Guitar Hero World Tour, Dannon, McDonalds and Volkswagen. Heidi became “Barbie’s” official ambassador in 2009 for the brand’s 50th anniversary. Heidi is a big supporter of the global charitable organization UNICEF.
