So, apparently Scream 4 is going to be the start of a NEW trilogy (meaning Scream 5 and 6 will follow if we’re lucky). Neve Campbell, David Arquete and Courteny Cox Arquette are all in this movie according to IMDB, Wes Craven, and Kevin Williamson. I have no idea how they got Campbell on board, but yay! Filming begins next month in Michigan, and we might be in the theaters watching Sidney Prescott by April 2011. The tagline for Scream 4 is “New decade. New rules!” so I wonder if Randy Meek’s rules won’t apply anymore. Those rules have served me well!
It has been TEN YEARS since Scream 3 was released (and hey – Scott Foley was in it along with Cox – who were both on Cougar Town!). Wes Craven recently told EW.com:
“It’s a total integration of those three and new kids. The story of Sid, Gale, and Dewey is very much a part of the movie … There have been 10 years of no Ghostface, but there has been the movie-within-a-movie Stab. We have fun with the idea of endless sequels , or “sequelitis” as Kevin calls it in the script. Sid goes through these three horrendous things, and Stab was based on those horrible things. And then they’ve been taken by a studio and run into the ground in a series of sequels. She has been off by herself and living her own life, and she’s even written a book that has gotten a lot of critical acclaim. She’s kind of put her life back together in the course of these 10 years. But, certainly, there would be no Scream without Ghostface, so she has to confront him again, but now as a woman who has really come out the darkness of her past.”
Jamie Kennedy will not be reprising his role as Randy Meeks. Kevin Williamson told FEARnet:
We’re not that universe where you can bring people back from the dead. That would be just a cheat. It’s such a disservice. Everyone’s like, ‘When’s Randy coming back?’ I’m like, ‘You know what? I would love nothing more than to have Jamie Kennedy in the film.’ However, to have Randy in the film, it sort of just takes it… I mean Scream 2 was a lie, you know? It’s a false move. So I just won’t do it.
I am guessing this means no Matthew Lillard as Stu Macher, Skeet Ulrich as Billy Loomis, Drew Barrymore as Casey Becker, Rose McGowan as Tatum Riley, Liev Shrieber as Cotton Weary, Timothy Olyphant as Mickey, Sarah Michelle Gellar as Cici Cooper, or even Joshua Jackson as Film Class Guy #1. Actually, Jackson could come back – he never died. I do believe that Rebecca Gayheart and Portia de Rossi were sorority sisters (Lois and Murphy) who also lived.
One more thing – not to be a total geek – but I really hope Marco Beltrami is back to do the original score for Scream 4.During high school I listened to the Scream soundtrack more than any other CD, and I especially loved the last track that was labeled, “Original Motion Picture Score”, by Beltrami. The Scream 2 soundtrack wasn’t as good, and the Scream 3 soundtrack was stupid.
