Sarah Michelle Gellar Goes BUFFY on RINGER with LOL Results
| February 2, 2012 at 6:36 PM ESTDid you miss this Buffy-lite moment on Ringer with Sarah Michelle Gellar?
It’s a bad sign when admitting you watch a certain TV show feels shameful, and it is with no direct eye contact that I will confess I still watch Ringer. A new episode aired on The CW this week, titled, “It Just Got Normal.”
Buffy Summers (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) punched Logan Echolls (Veronica Mars.) To rephrase, Bridget (Sarah Michelle Gellar) punched Mr. Carpenter (Jason Dohring.) But it’s a lot more fun the way I said it.
Even though SMG can give a convincing fake punch, she definitely restrained herself here. Maybe even too much. Is it bad that this moment made me LOL? Probably.
Jason Dohring is so damn tall that the punch comes off as comical, being that Gellar is so damn short.
To give you a bit of history, (spoilers ahead) Bridget is impersonating her twin. And the stepdaughter, Juliet, has just told her that she was raped by the teacher who was in their house for a party. (Although we’re supposed to be a little unsure of if Juliet was actually raped. She was the one who had a crush on him, and he was the one telling her to leave him alone. While this episode made her look very much the victim, the show tends to enjoy tricking viewers… So really, we don’t know if it happened or not yet.) Bridget walks out and “decks” him after storming out and saying, “Carpenter?”
Elsewhere in the episode, I realized how nicely decorated Juliet’s bedroom is. La, la, yawn…
…All in all, it’s surprising that Ringer hasn’t been canceled by The CW yet. You can even imagine SMG hearing how good The Lying Game (a show with a similar premise) is, and how Charisma Carpenter is rocking it there for ABC Family with Nathan Petrelli (Adrian Pasdar.) Then it makes even more sense for her to say, “Carpenter?” and then punch someone.
