Melodrama, grandeur, love, loss, betrayal, secrets, lies, revenge – we have the all the makings of an opera right there in the Hamptons. With both Victoria’s and Emily’s Achilles heels now (sadly) departed, the two Mrs Graysons take their battle back to basics and the root of this whole journey – to get to the truth of who framed David Clarke.

After she was Mrs Grayson

As a lawyer, Stevie Grayson was sent a piece of evidence anonymously that could have helped clear David Clarke’s name. She visited him in prison under her maiden name to avoid attention, but then was framed by Conrad on a DUI charge that resulted in her disbarment. After she was disgracefully fired from her job, all the files she had on her investigation on the Clarke case were confiscated by her firm. This means there is only one way to get those files back – break into the firm’s archives.

Mission: Possible

Although Nolan declared he was going to steer clear of his hacking past after being released from prison, nothing will stop him from getting that undeniable gleam in his eye back in order to help Jack (of all people!) to break into a top-notch law firm. There is only one minor glitch – the firm had converted all paper files into digital hard drives since Stevie left, so instead of looking for files from June 1997 labelled as such, Jack was staring at rows and rows of shelves with undecipherable codes.

Emily has to contend with a very public showdown. Photo: ABC

Fear not! Nolan made some friends (or at least one) while serving time by the name of Javier, also a hacker, now under house arrest at Nolan’s house. While Nolan is busy pretending to require the services of a bunch of high-priced patent lawyers at the firm as an excuse to get Jack into the archives room, he delegates the job of helping Jack find the right hard drives to steal to Javier. He may prove to be a very handy house guest for NolEm yet.

Is Victoria coming close to figuring out Emily’s motives?

Armed with incriminating photos of Emily kissing Aiden, Daniel can’t help but gloat to his mommy dearest – now back to devoting all her attentions on her other son since Patrick’s departure – that he finally has the upper hand in his attempt to kick his new bride out of the Grayson family. Although excited by the news and the possibility of getting back into her son’s good graces, Victoria is also starting to see Emily may have ulterior motives in her determination to stay in a doomed marriage. Whereas her own marriage was predicated on money and social standing, Emily is after neither.

Victoria’s assumption that Emily was a smart grifter proved incorrect as she refuses to be bribed to leave Daniel alone. Add this to the fact that her “secret” lover is the son of the pilot who flew the plane they were responsible for bombing, Victoria believes Emily is after the Grayson family, and not their fortune. Alas, this may yet be the beginnings of a different ballgame if they start to play on a more even playing field…or will they?

The best actress award goes to Emily Grayson

With the exception of a special few, Emily has always put on a dual personality: the one who pretends to be the philanthropic socialite deeply in love with Daniel and the one who is secretly plotting to take down the Graysons and everyone else who contributed to her father’s wrongful conviction and death.

And so, even knowing the deviousness of Emily, Daniel and Victoria choose to confront her with their photos (a gambler never shows his hand before time!), gleefully, convinced she will now have no choice but to sign the divorce papers. In response, Emily puts on an award-winning performance, complete with crocodile tears, as a demonstration of what she would be saying to the media should they force her to leave. Bravo! But the show ain’t over yet…

A night at the opera with the paparazzi

I didn’t realize Voulez was a gossip magazine, but apparently with the arrival of Charlotte as the new intern, her gossip section is soon to get the best tip in town, starting with the arrival of Pascale LeMarchal – lusting after Victoria – and ending with “someone” leaking Emily’s medical records showing she had lied about her pregnancy in order to get Daniel to marry her. Taking the bait, hook, line and sinker, Victoria couldn’t help herself but to publicly humiliate her daughter-in-law in the middle of the opera and announce to the world that she had lied her way into Grayson Manor.

And here, Emily put on yet another brilliant performance by running out of the opera theater (still looking absolutely resplendent in her gold dress and heels) and right into the waiting media. The next day, Emily is packing her bags and moving out of Grayson Manor as Daniel and Victoria stand at the door to see her off as if she was going on a nice vacation, handing her the divorce papers that they are convinced she has no choice but to sign. At this point, my first thought was “have they learned nothing?” Surely they should have suspected that Emily orchestrated the entire scenario and was the one who leaked her medical records to the press? If they say love is blind, then perhaps hate makes them dumb as well.

Revenge of the kids

When Margaux went back to Paris and returned to the Hamptons with her father, she thought he would help her kick Conrad out of her magazine, believing that it would be in both their interests to rid their company of all the Graysons. Unfortunately, what she didn’t realize was just how far back her father’s relationship with the Graysons go, and the fact that her father had agreed to help finance her magazine, not as a show of support for his child, but to use Voulez as a write-off for his global organization. To top it off, Conrad wants a piece of the LeMarchal action, even going so far as to offer up Victoria (like a chattel) as a bribe. Margaux decides to join forces with Daniel to fight rebel against both their fathers, but what will they do?
