Have you started your campaign to become “elected” the next regional manager of Dunder Mifflin? Or do you think DM should promote from within, and Dwight Schrute has great potential to lead the masses?
No doubt, Rainn Wilson as Schrute would be an engaging and entertaining boss for our crew of The Office, but fans are having a field day with thinking about (passing along rumors with as much enthusiasm as they passed along notes in middle school) who else could take over for Steve Carell‘s Michael Scott character.
It’s so hard to think of The Office without Scott, but grieving just makes you look tired and sad! (And I can look that way if I stay up all night watching Shark Week episodes on Netflix! Btw, they’re there! THE OCEAN OF FEAR IS REAL.*)
Who has been getting the most rumor mill action, in terms of replacement nominee’s? That’d be Danny McBride (Eastbound & Down), Michael Emerson (Lost), Rhys Darby (Flight of the Concords), or an Arrested Development alum like Portia de Rossi, Jeffrey Tambor or Tony Hale.
People seem to really like the idea of promoting Dwight Schrute, and he does seem like the only person who’d be excellent for the job. Or is he? If the show doesn’t want to bring in new blood, I suggest they look to the prospect of bringing back Melora Hardin as Jan. Remember Jan? She made candles and had a baby after getting fired. But she’s an ambitious woman, and she might have risen from the depths of a deplorable work ethic to champion the rise of a new day at Dunder Mifflin.
Can you imagine the gold mine that would be Kevin asking Jan about having sex with Michael – at every meeting? Imagine how Jan would groan when Kevin raised his hand every single time. And every time, Kevin would get more “clever” (though clever for Kevin isn’t a large feat, it’s hard not to love the way he gets so smug about it with his giggling) about leading into his questions.
If not Jan, what about Jan’s former assistant – Hunter? Played by Nicholas D’Agosto, Hunter only appeared in three episodes but his impact has become legendary to fans in light of the song “That One Night” – presumably written about Jan. Yes, he may have been fired, but that hasn’t stopped anyone from coming back.
They should bring back Hunter and Jam, it can be Ham! Jan and Hunter should have married. They can be a weird codependent couple, hell bent on ruling Dunder Mifflin as one of them stays at home as the “trophy wife.”
Bonus – If D’Agosto rose to more fame he’d complete my virtual Bingo board of stars who went big after first starring in the just-as-good-as-it-sounds 200 movie Pyscho Beach Party. Other stars of the movie? Amy Adams, Lauren Ambrose, Nicholas Brendon, Thomas Gibson and Kathleen Robertson.
So what do you think, who would you pick as Michael Scott’s replacement? What do you think of Jan and Hunter?
P.S. Rashida Jones as Karen Filippelli would only be great only if she came back from a divorce – because what fun is there with a happily married Mom?
*I also spied Jaws and Jaws 3D. My night is SO booked.
