While I am full of joy to have the always adorable Rachel Bilson return to the small screen, I can’t help but wonder if we’ve seen this show in too many recent incarnations.
First, a little background: Rachel Bilson shot to TV SUPAHSTARDOM on the Fox TV show The O.C. Now she’s returning to TV, with The O.C.’s producer Josh Schwartz at her side.
The project? A CW drama called Hart of Dixie. Rachel Bilson’s character will be a NYC doctor who inherits a medical practice in a small southern town. It sounds very similar to Everwood, but this time there’s no family – it’s a single gal on her own. (Okay, now this also reminds me a little bit of that Anne Heche canceled TV show Men in Trees.) Despite all possible similarities, are you still interested in the premise?
Schwartz already has an “in” with The CW as he developed Gossip Girl. And Bilson? She already has an “in” with everyone’s heart because she’s socially conscious, stylish, and generally adorable.
The Technical Details: Hart of Dixie is produced by Warner Bros. Television and Schwartz and Stephanie Savage’s Fake Empire shingle. The script is written by Leila Gerstein who will be an executive producer with Schwartz, Savage and Len Goldstein.
