NBC TV Schedule for 2013-2014 | The Blacklist, Believe, Crisis, Sean Saves the World look promising.
| May 12, 2013 at 7:01 PM EDTI am going to be blunt here, and tell you exactly which new NBC shows look like they’ll be awful. That’s right folks, I’ll be naming names.
NBC’s 2013-14 schedule is focusing on a few new family-based comedies and some action dramas.
Solid shows like The Voice, Parenthood, Chicago Fire, The Biggest Loser, Revolution and Grimm are all back. We’ve also got Parks and Recreation shoved at the start of an otherwise completely new Thursday night line-up. (Will Community be renewed? We don’t know yet, so there is at least a hope for that.)
The network is very excited (practically foaming at the mouth) to premiere their new James Spader show, titled The Blacklist. The series will air on Monday nights at 10 p.m. In it, Spader plays an ex-government agent that’s become a criminal who … isn’t so bad. He says he’ll help the FBI to catch a terrorist, but only with the help of a another female agent (Megan Boone) whom he doesn’t even seem to know. (Intrigue.) It seems like White Collar, but with more sexual tension.
New NBC Shows for 2013 and 2014
Another new show is a modern day NYC version of the 70’s Ironside. It stars Blair Underwood, Pablo Schreiber, Spencer Grammer, Neal Bledsoe, Brent Sexton, and Kenneth Choi.
Welcome to the Family is going to come after Parks and Recreation, and the cast is led by Mike O’Malley, Mary McCormack, and Ella Rae Peck. It’s about a teen girl who gets pregnant by someone of another culture. Though I will give O’Malley his fair due from charming us all on Glee, this show looks awful.
But there is an upside. Thursdays will also have Sean Hayes at the lead of Sean Saves the World, where Hayes plays a Divorced Gay Dad (DGD!) whose daughter moves in with him. Looks good to me.
Crisis looks like a solid thriller, about kids from rich families taken from their school trip. It could play out any number of ways. It stars Dermot Mulroney, Gillian Anderson, Lance Gross, and Rachael Taylor.
There is also Dracula, Crossbones, American Dream Builders and The Michael J Fox Show. I can only comment on the first two, which have captured my attention for sure.
Mid-Season Additions
Come this Mid-Season there is About a Boy, starring the fan-favorite face of David Walton and the legendary Minnie Driver. Jason Katims is at the helm of the revamp of the film adaptation that made everyone cry (in a good way.) This is going to be your new favorite show.
Another Mid-Season big-seller is The Family Guide, starring Parker Posey and J.K. Simmons. There’s voiceover, a blind man, and a dog. But will it be good? It feels like it could go either way.
The Late Shift has Eion Acken, Ken Leung, and Brendan Fehr as rebels who work the late shift at the ER.
Chicago PD is the uncreative name for a Chicago Fire spin-off.
Kyle MacLachlan, Jake McLachlan and Jamie Chung will star in Believe, another mid-season show brought to us by J.J. Abrams. Ya dig? There’s a girl with super powers. See, now you’re on board.
Mid-Season Maybes
Chicago PD (A mid-season maybe) would be a Chicago Fire spin-off. I see they went with a creative show title.
The Night Shift (a mid-season maybe) has Eoin Macken, Ken Leung, Brendan Fehr. The show is about rebel ER docs, and seems like it would have promise.
Undateable (a mid-season maybe) looks awful, so let’s just stop talking about it now.
