Before you launch into Modern Family season 3, make sure you have Modern Family season 2 (on DVD or Blu-ray) to supplement the new season and make sure you are never without the family you love! Which, uh, ideally, is your own family… But you know what I mean.
Modern Family season 2 started out with Phil ready to sell an old car (and prove his superior selling skills), Mitchell deciding he can build a princess castle on his own, and Manny having a crush on a new girl while Gloria freaked out about it. We go on to episodes with flash mobs, treadmill yoga, and plenty of wholesome family fun.
The element of the special features I enjoy the most are the deleted scenes regulated into the “deleted family interviews” section. There are also deleted and extended scenes on every disc. But the family interviews give you a chance to see the actors improving a little, and it seems like there’s a lot of comedic gold that has to be trimmed away in every episode.
When you watch some of the behind the scenes features you’ll notice that everyone just seems very happy (even when they’ve got to be exhausted) and it’s really all about being in a certain environment and state of mind that helps make this show stay the course (I sound like I’m running for President now, great) and turn into one of ABC’s best comedies in years. It’s a great companion show for Cougar Town and The Middle.
Modern Family Season 2 Special Features:
Deleted Family Interviews: Phil can sell anything. And he thinks cats playing ping pong on the internet are hilarious.
Deleted and Extended Scenes: One of Phil’s favorite movies is You’ve Got Mail. It’s in his top ten. Cameron eats breadsticks in the funniest way. There’s a surprising amount of Phil baking in the deleted scenes. I just wish there was a way to pick between watching the deleted scenes and the extended scenes, maybe. And and I’d love some more deleted scenes! We know you have them, dudes, give us more!
Strangers on a Treadmill – Table Read
Mitch’s Flash Mob: Go behind the scenes of this flash mob. Mini cast/crew interviews. It’s too bad they don’t have a feature where you can learn the choreography!
More after the jump.
Deleted Family Interviews: Manny has a five year plan, Phil knows about buttons.
Deleted and Extended Scenes: Dylan wants roller coasters at Graceland.
“Imagine Me Naked” Music Video: This is a music video from Dylan and his band, with the song he wrote for Haley.
Deleted Family Interviews: The many faces of Cameron.
Deleted and Extended Scenes
Gag-Reel: Certain words are hard to say, it’s true!
Modern Family Holidays: Exploring Valentine’s Day, Anniversary’s, Mother’s Day, Halloween… holiday’s are stressful, no doubt about that.
Waiting for Oprah: “I felt like one of the Real Housewives” said Jesse Tyler Ferguson as the crew got filmed for the Oprah show. It’s a documentary about the show being documented. And not confusing at all.
Chatting with Steve Levitan: Learn how his family feels about the show that reflects them.
At Home with Modern Family: It’s literally about the houses! There’s a lot of psychological reasons why things look certain ways. And, of course, there’s technical stuff. You get to see a couple photos of the actors as children, too. Pretty cute, guys.
