Matt Smith as DOCTOR WHO is Posh

Matt Smith is the new Doctor for Doctor Who, and we’re finally getting some more pictures of him in the role. So what do you make of Matt Smith’s Doctor costume? It seems rather swanky and posh, though very boring at the same time. And his outfit will somehow fit with his personality, so what do you think that says about this Doctor? Would he know what Prada is? Moreover, would he care? OR is his costume the bowtie ensemble? Even weirder – but much more interesting at least.
I will still watch the show, but losing David Tennant and Russel T Davies for the show still strikes a sad chord with me.

Those pictures of him in the black suit are from publicity stills taken for the announcement that he would take over the role (shades of “Boilersuit Tom”). The other pictures are from the “End of Time”, he had just regenerated and still has David’s suit on. I think his official costume is the tweeds and bowtie ensemble.

Yep, tweeds and tie are the uniform. Matt was very good in “The Ruby and the Smoke,” so I’ll reserve judgment until I have seen him in a couple of stories, though I will miss David, who’s my very favorite Doctor ever and my second favorite Hamlet. RTD did a lot to revitalize “Doctor Who,” but the new head writer, Steve Moffat wrote some of my favorite episodes, so I have complete and utter faith in him.

Ah okay – I’d seen him in that outfit in some other promo pics floating around, but then these newer pics came out and I was confused. I’m glad it’s the more eccentric outfit.
David Tennant might be picked up for a pilot he did, so we’ll still have him around, but he’ll be working less hours which is good for anyone’s health. And I think it’s honorable of him to step down from something so big, to say ‘it’s someone else’s turn’.

So I take it you haven’t seen too many regenerations in Doctor Who, then? It’s sad when a Doctor leaves, undoubtedly, but this begrudging attitude of, “I suppose I’ll still watch it…” that so many people display at present just drives me insane. I mean, the showrunner is now a man who can write rings around RTD, and he gets to mold an all-new Doctor in the process. That will be AMAZING. It’s not something to think about watching half-heartedly.

I have to admit, I really only came on board in series two with David Tennant. And I went back to watch series one (of the reboot) and didn’t like it as much. It’s not that I like the show only for David, but his portrayal of the Doctor was one I really liked. I really do understand what you mean, though. Change is hard for millions of people, and I’m no exception. Your faith in the new series gives me confidence that I should put aside my worries. But really, anytime any show makes a major change I worry. When Gilmore Girls’ final season had major changes behind the scenes, it was the worst season ever.

David Tennant was a good Doctor, without doubt, but what seems to get forgotten is that for every “Blink” there was a “Fear Her”. And when it came to his final run of specials — programs that should have been above-average due to the fact there were so few of them across the space of a year — even some of those fell flat and were nothing special at all. I’m REALLY looking forward to the Moffat era. Moffat/Tennant would have been fun, but Moffat/Smith will be a riot.

One criticism of Tennant/scripts. The solution out of a mess was rattled off at a million miles an hour in 5 seconds. Slow it down. The popular doctors never showed fear on their faces. Go back into space/other planets. Have two friendly female companions (another Nyssa/Rose for Amy). Might take the pressure of Matt.

Apparently we get a male companion at some stage during this season. I’ve wanted a male companion to break up the Rose-Martha-Donna-Amy thing.
