LIFE UNEXPECTED Asks a Moral Question So I’m Taking an Informal Poll! Team Cate or Team Baze?

On tonight’s episode of LIFE UNEXPECTED “Crisis Unaverted” there was a serious issue that made me pretty miffed. Newly single, Cate (literally just having been dumped) is begged by Lux to adopt Lux’s friend, Tasha. Cate feels remorse, but has to say “no” as any realistic adult would do. Cate knows herself well enough to know that it’s difficult enough handling just one new child, and now she’s lost her partner and will be having emotional instability. More than that, Cate doesn’t know Tasha at all. If Lux had brought Tasha by a ton, and Cate and Tasha had bonded in any way, I could have related to this. But Cate knows it’s not good for Tasha to just blindly adopt her. It might not feel good at the time, but it’s better in the long run. And of course, as you heard the social worker tell Baze, single parents with no blood connection can’t just up and adopt someone they don’t know.
Lux gets angry and takes it out on Cate by moving out. She likes Baze, the “good cop” because he does try to adopt Tasha. And while it was a sweet gesture, it wasn’t very smart. There is no quick fix to this sort of thing. And really, it was the immature thing to do.
Why is Lux so upset? In this world of E-mail, Skyping, Texting, ect – is it the end of the world for a friend to be two hours away from you? I’d call Lux selfish, but she’s young and she was emotional, I can’t blame her for feeling how she feels. But the parental units need to be more mature (read: Baze needs to not just want to please his daughter, but actually THINK).
I felt so bad for Cate, she could have really used her daughter after her fiancee walked out on her. But what say you? Do you agree with Cate’s decision not to adopt Tash, or do you agree with Baze’s decision to try and do so? Are you TEAM CATE or TEAM BAZE? They both want the best for Lux, but whose approach was more sensible?
Sound off in the comments, but keep it clean, people!

I am so torn between the Baze and Ryan. Love Baze’s “tough guy exterior, tenderhearted interior” and Ryan’s “bring home to mom” demeanor just lures me in. I am going to say “TEAM LIFE UNEXPECTED!”
Oh, and Lux…we just discussed how nasty she is to Cate, but it’s actually how typical mother/daughter relationships go…ya know. It’s real!

True…true. Mom’s and daughters don’t really get along. I guess I just want more Gilmore Girls.
But yea, TEAM LIFE UNEXPECTED.

P.S. I have a working poll up now!

I am not a big Cate fan but she did the right thing for once. Lux is a brat.

Lux does come off as a brat to me far too often. :X And then I feel bad because I have to remember she’s a young teen on the show…but still…rawr!

I’m team Cate all the way! Baze is just childish and immature.

Lux had no right to just pop out a question like that and then leave because Cate refused to take on another huge responsibility (Tasha). I know Lux has more anger for Cate for the way she grew up but Cate needs to take a stand with her and Lux needs to REALLY tell Lux and Baze how angry she really is about the life she has had to lead. Then they can move on.

Kelly and Jenny, I’m so glad you guys agree because I was worried I was being too harsh! Tasha would be a huge responsibility to just take on without any prep work – Lux was acting like it was no big deal.

Lux is just getting on my nerves.

Lux’s character is not very well developed. She is really sweet and understanding one moment and acts like a spoiled brat the next… Cate should be given more credit.

I am so glad that I’m not the only one who really felt bad for Cate and was finding Lux annoying.

I’ve read a lot of posts on message boards, and a lot are viewers are finding Lux’s behavior annoying too.

I’ve always kind of found Lux annoying, to be honest. I mean, not a ton. Just a little. I think it’s the hat she wears. I hate that hat. Love her hair, though.

Can I just say that Cate was totally there for Lux when Bug left? And that was like a lame little relationship… Cate and Ryan were engaged! Lux acted very immature and I felt awful for Cate… hopefully she’ll move back in? But I honestly think Lux is a little annoying.

Hannah – that is an excellent, EXCELLENT point. Cate was there in the beginning of that episode. And then at the end, Lux left her. So annoying. Rawr.

Frankly I have found Lux very annoying. The first couple of shows I thought I would like her and the show, but more and more I have found that Lux is far too much of a brat and Cate hater. For a kid who has grown up in the mean reality of life, she sure has very unrealistic expectations of poor Cate.

Dahomey, I one hundred percent agree. I am angry at the immaturity of Lux’s character. She wouldn’t talk to Cate but expects Cate to fix it…?
Also, I must say, I was a little disappointed in Cate when she bought Lux an expensive dress after what Lux did to her…

I wish Lux was a bit more like Joey Potter. Joey had snark, but she was never rude in the way Lux is. Cate shouldn’t have tried to buy Lux back, but Mom’s do buy their daughters dresses so in a way it makes sense. And Cate seems to be able to afford that stuff.

I can’t agree with you more, Dahorney!
At the first couple episodes, I thought “wow! this is such a good show! I like it!” But with each episode, I just like it less and less, and Lux is the major part contributing to this negative feeling.
Lux acts like a spoiled brat who just expects her new-found parents would do anything and everything for her instead of someone who has never been loved and eager to find that bound with her birth parents. She is just so annoying!!
