Kelly Clarkson airbrushed on Self Magazine cover

Kelly Clarkson at a recent concert
I like Kelly Clarkson. She has catchy little dance tunes, she can actually really sing and she’s a curvy girl with a cute face. I have also always liked that she says her body is her body and seems to shrug off criticism of her weight. In fact, she told Self Magazine, “My weight changes. Sometimes I eat more, sometimes I play more. I’ll be different sizes all the time.”
What I don’t like is Self Magazine going a little overboard with their editing of Ms. Clarkson’s figure. I mean, look at the picture to the right and then look at the Self Magazine photos below the fold. There’s absolutely no way that photo isn’t pretty drastically edited. The photo at right is from “Good Morning America” July 31st and the cover was just shot.

September '09 cover of Self Magazine
Clarkson’s rear, tummy and arms all seem to be considerably smaller. I especially love how the magazine articles are things like “Why our favorite ‘American Idol’ loves her body,” “Total Body Confidence” and “Lose Weight Without Dieting.”
Hey, I know how to lose weight without dieting. Get a Self Magazine photo editor on the case.
Lucy Danziger, the editor of Self Magazine said, “Yes, of course we do post-production corrections on our images” and “We didn’t airbrush Kelly any more than any other celebrity.”
Maybe that is the actual problem, Self Magazine.
