KATY PERRY Grammys 2012 Performance of E.T. and Part of Me
| February 13, 2012 at 3:29 AM ESTKaty Perry dressed up in futuristic golden garb (and blue, crimped hair),to hit the Grammy stage. This was incredibly appropriate for her space-aged song, “E.T.”
Then the song segued into a new one, titled, “Part of Me.” It doesn’t take a genius to realize that this song was inspired by her breakup with husband Russell Brand. The divorce was finalized on February 7, 2012.
The song “Part of Me” is a powerful ballad of a survivor. It’s an anthem for wronged women everywhere.
A sample of the lyrics: “You chewed me up and spit me out like I was poison in your mouth. This is the part of me that you’re never ever gonna take away from me. You’re not gonna break my soul. … Your love was cheap, was always tearing at the seam. I feel deep and you let me drown. But that was then, and this is now. Now look at me! … You can keep the diamond ring. It don’t mean nothing anyway. In fact you can keep everything. Yeah, yeah, except for me.”
The “Part of Me” track will be on an extended version of Teenage Dream, which will release on March 13, 2012.
