Inside this House season 8 review: a Cuddy shrine, the legitimacy of animal ghosts who need medical care, and the most annoying, passive platitudes.
House “Dead and Buried” Review
We were forced to get educated on Taub and his former waxing behavior in this episode. But we also learned that Chase hasn’t had the waxing wonder done to him. When he was late and acted shifty, Park immediately jumped on his ass. (Not up, on.) She was like a detective. And that’s thanks to House – he makes everyone on his team become detectives who second guess everything they see and hear. It’s a stellar skill for medical work. It’s a bit less important in other life areas. Embarrassing Chase is fun, yes, but it’s not as necessary as … well, other stuff.
Speaaaking of that lovely, groomed Chase. Ahem. Would you watch Doctor Down Under? Obsessively, right? I know. Webisodes, please!
Here’s a newsflash: House is an addict. GASP. House is so addicted to puzzles that a dead patient takes the spotlight even once he realizes his other patient has DID aka Multiple Personality Disorder. (That’s major!) Being addicted to mysteries (and solving them) is another way of saying that House is obsessive and can’t move on from things. For this reason, I have to believe he has a weird shrine to Cuddy in his apartment right now. They demonstrated in House season 7 that House is always going to be addicted to something at all times. (Remember when he was practically an iron chef?)
The only characters who actually mentioned Cuddy (she deserves more mentions) were Wilson and Foreman. Wilson pointed out that Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein) didn’t control House, she managed him. It was all WWCD? over there.
I’m a bleeding heart, guys. So the idea of an animal being a ghost and needing some sort of medical attention makes me feel bad. I don’t even need a Sarah McLaughlin song to make me feel teary about it. So, I do encourage House to take animal ghost cases.
Like House, I’m not a fan of platitudes. So I decided to do some research and see which are the ones that would piss him off the most. At the top of my list are the ones that encourage passivity: “If it’s meant to be, it’s meant to be.” “Good things come to those who wait.”
Best House Season 8 Quotes from “Dead and Buried”
- “I’ve got a case for you.” – Foreman
“Smells funny.” – House
- “We have a problem.” – Wilson
“Does it limp?”- Foreman
- “A Brazilian hurts all your bits.” – Taub
- “Next it’ll be animal ghost cases.” – Foreman
- “There are platitudes that can help you with that.” – House
Random note: House M.D. is one of the few shows I watch that still has opening credits. To be fair, there’s also Dexter, Homeland, Modern Family, New Girl, How I Met Your Mother, Chuck, ANTM, The Big Bang Theory, The Office, Community, 30 Rock… er, Raising Hope isn’t doing them anymore…. And, yes, I know that sounds like a lot. But do you realize I watch a lot more TV than that? Shows without opening credits include: Gossip Girl, Hart of Dixie, 2 Broke Girls, Grimm, Once Upon a Time, Revenge… I told you it was a lot. Stop your judgmental eyes! They’re harshing my mellow! (God, I wish I was mellow. I harsh my own mellow. How sad is that? But adding “harshing” to my online dictionary is a silver lining.)
Grade: Like House, I wasn’t totally compelled this week. B-
