Loaded with heavy hitters that understand their craft, Homeland stars Damian Lewis, Claire Danes, Mandy Patinkin and Morena Baccarin. While many will spend time praising Lewis (and it’s well deserved) I have to focus on my favorites here… Danes and Patinkin. They play CIA case officer Carrie Mathison and her mentor/father figure/superior Saul Berenson, respectively. Whether these characters are their own or in scenes together, they are thrilling and always though-provoking.

Plot-wise, the series grips you with its tense turns and lingering dramatic captures of a gritty, often grim, reality.

The series airs on Showtime and season one has recently been released on DVD and Blu-ray on Fox Home Entertainment.
