This song, along with a heartfelt apology from a shockingly sincere Chuck Bass, has reignited the Chuck and Blair shippers. Are you one?

Giovanni Rufino / The CW

“Video Games” by Lana Del Rey provided the Chuck/Blair (Ed Westwick and Leighton Meester) centered ending of Gossip Girl “I Am Number Nine.” The song was also used on The CW show Ringer. The song was only released in early October. I cannot claim to know much about the music industry, and while it’s possible the music supervisor had access to the song earlier, doesn’t it seem more likely that another song was used in this episode until Gossip Girl decided they wanted to use this song? It’s a theory, at least.

A top comment for this song says “I just watched GG and heard this…i looooove it!” It was posted by

While plenty of the lyrics don’t work for Chair (Chuck/Blair) plenty others do.

Swinging in the backyard
Pull up in your fast car
Whistling my name

Chuck has indeed pulled up in town cars and limos, right next to Blair. In a less literal sense, he’s often whisked her away with his charm.

Open up a beer
And you say get over here
And play a video game

These lyrics really don’t apply that well. The author of these lyrics is living a very different life than the Upper Easter Siders. But feelings can be shared despite where you come from. To make sense of these lyrics, you could infer it to mean when Chuck or Blair would tempt each other and then dare the other to make the next move.

It’s you, it’s you, it’s all for you
Everything I do
I tell you all the time
Heaven is a place on earth with you
Tell me all the things you want to do

Ah, these are the lyrics that imply that true love is eternal and romantic even when (or especially when) it devastates you. Blair and Chuck have tortured each other over the years, so this is accurate. And many fans want to believe that no matter what happens, these are the pair that are meant to be together. I’d personally love to see Blair with Dan, but anyone’s better than Louis.

I heard that you like the bad girls
Honey, is that true?

Blair started out as a dirty little secret of Chuck’s, but then he wanted to elevate things. And through most of these seasons, he’s regressed back to having bad girl phases. But with Blair, it always takes on a much deeper meaning. That’s why Blair had such a hard time believing Chuck could care about Eva the way he used to care about her. Speaking of, if I were Chuck I’d be trying to find Eva! Except she was pretty boring, so I hope she never returns unless she can be more scandalous.

It’s better than I ever even knew
They say that the world was built for two
Only worth living
if somebody is loving you
Baby now you do

Chuck is always struggling to enjoy life. He can enjoy it when he’s in love.

Anyway, you get the picture. There are plenty more lyrics. And I’m sure I’ll hit “repeat” on this song plenty of times.

React: But what do you guys think, do you like this as a song for Chuck and Blair? Do you even like Chuck and Blair as a couple?
