Workin’ with a theme here… Glee ‘Hell-O’ Review

HELLO! Last night we had a brand new episode of Glee, titled “Hell-O”. What we learned is that winning Sectionals doesn’t do much for the popularity for most of the gleeks that weren’t already popular. Slushies are still in style, and blue seems to be the color du jour. Sue is back (like we could keep her away), and we did get to see her cunning maneuvers via flashback as she secured her job back (drugs and implied sex with Principal Figgins – this sounds so much darker than it seemed on screen…). Football may be over, but now it’s basketball time. Ugh. But I suppose it’s not a high school show if there aren’t sports everywhere for us to hate.

Will and Emma seemed to be moving along nicely…too nicely. I knew things wouldn’t be good for too long. A secret of Emma’s surfaces (virgin territory, boys and girls), Terri plants doubt in Emma’s head, and then Will has doubt planted in his head as well. A moment on screen where Will is seen cheating (just kissing) with guest star Idinia Menzel (aka Shelby Corcoran the woman in charge of Vocal Adrenaline) made made me gasp and feel so frickin’ mad at him! Could he really not control his hormones? He finally got Emma, and he wants to ruin it? Is Will more flawed than I had realized?

We learned a bit more about Santana and Brittany in this episode, and not just that Brittany thinks that “dolphins are just gay sharks”. Their friendship is strong, and they work together like devious partners in crime. However, they could not win over Quinn. Finn goes back to Rachel, whom he’d previously dumped. Sure, Rachel may have seemed overwhelming by having his and her’s calendars, but she obviously cared about him.

But there’s a new man in Rachel’s life named Jesse St. James (Jonathan Groff). He’s the lead male from the rival glee club, Vocal Adrenaline. When New Directions tells Rachel she has to give up the guy, she tells them she has (though she hasn’t). Meanwhile, Emma and Will decide to take a break so Will can find himself.

There was very little about Quinn and Puck, aside that they seem to be getting along and being affectionate despite Puck wanting Quinn to stop gaining weight, and that Finn may not be over Quinn. Though, he does end the episode by swearing he will try to get Rachel back. I thought it was really decent of Rachel not to agree to date Finn again, not just because he treated her poorly, but because she won’t cheat on Jesse. Of course, Jesse may be lying to her…

Glee Hell-O episode synopsis: Fresh off their monumental win at Sectionals, New Directions is on top of the world. With an extra spring in their step, they get to work on new numbers for Regionals. But when Rachel and Finn’s budding romance hits a bump in the road after she becomes involved with a competitor, Jesse St. James, it threatens to derail the entire club. Mr. Schuester pays a visit to Shelby Corcoran, coach of Vocal Adrenaline, to confirm Jesse’s motives. Meanwhile, Will is newly single, but is he ready to take his relationship with Emma to the next level? And to top it all off, Sue Sylvester returns from her condo in Boca with a renewed focus on destroying Will and disbanding the glee club.
