Final image of Lost was not a clue to what Lost was about

Leave it to ABC to mess with Lost! The ending footage that aired during the credits for the Lost finale, we saw images of the plane crash. This made people confused and form even more theories about the entire series. And it turns out, that footage wasn’t supposed to be shown to us because it had nothing to do with the finale at all. What do you think of THAT? You weren’t supposed to interpret anything from those mostly-silent (just the waves) images. But fans did. Fans SO did.

The story goes that those final images of the plane wreck were put in by ABC as a “visual aid”. An ABC spokesperson told the LA Times, “The images shown during the end credits of the Lost finale, which included shots of Oceanic 815 on a deserted beach, were not part of the final story but were a visual aid to allow the viewer to decompress before heading into the news.”

Executive producers of Lost Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse had nothing to do with the decision to add those shots into the finale. If they’d been asked, I’m pretty sure they would have said “no”. People had asked Kristin Dos Santos for her interpretation, and she thought it was just a piece of nostalgia from a B-roll.

As it was, I didn’t make a wild interpretation of those final shots. But fans have reason to believe that Lost would pull a prank by actually describing the entire show in the last five seconds. Some fans said that the footage meant that everyone had died in the crash, and the entire show was a lie. But that’s not true at all. What we discussed on Small Screen Scoop was that they were just showing that the island had survived. People noted that it was clear that there were items in groups, so someone had been there.I hope this helps clear up some of the mystery.
