The stakes are high. The designers are cattier than ever. It’s Fashion Star!

fashion star

Who is your Fashion Star? Is it funny that the guy at the front of this was eliminated so early on I can’t even remember his name? Yea, I think it’s funny.

Last week, we tragically lost our most talented designerSilvia Arguello. (If not the most talented, one of the top two most talented designers.) But at least we still have Hunter Bell to root for. If she doesn’t win, I might throw a genuine tizzy.

The Challenge Tonight

There’s only four designers left. Tonight, the designers have to take a trend of the past and transform it for the modern day consumer.

What’s for Sale on Fashion Star?

Cassandra Hobbins – She looked to the 1960’s for her column dress and shirt mini dress. The column dress in black and white was great, but mostly because she picked a great pattern. The second one with the red pattern was not as nice. The patterned shirtdress was way too masculine, and I’d never wear it. The plain yellow shirtdress is something I could see someone wearing, I guess. Macys’ decided to bid on it. And Express wanted the long dress. You can buy the shirtdress at Macy’s. You can buy the column dress at Express.

Daniel Silverstein – Somehow, he’s the top-selling designer left. It’s weird because I really haven’t liked anything he’s done. He’s looking to the 60’s just like Cassandra, and he’s focusing on all white, and geographic prints. But, at least he tries to make interesting things in a show that plays things safe so often. His armor-like dress was actually interesting. I mean, it had some artistic soul to it. And his white top was really, actually cool. He pulled the things apart so there was the short sleeve top. I like it on the model but not for everyone’s body.  And then we had the pencil skirt in the armor pattern, and the white fringe. I thought it might make someone look larger, that’s the problem with that split fringe.  The pencil skirt was bid on by Saks, as was the short top.  You can buy the pencil skirt and the short top at Saks.

Hunter Bell – Her inspiration is from the 50’s. She wants a fit-n-flare dress, and a colored lace piece. The fit-and-flare dress was amazing and gorgeous and perfect. I loved it in either pattern option. The lace dress was…yes, I liked it. It was unique and sexy. I liked the blue world’s more than the yellow, though. The yellow makes me think of a bumble bee with the wings. The Fit and Flare dress was bid on by Express, Macy’s and Saks. The peplum fitted dress was bid on by Saks and Express. Finally, a bidding war happened!  You can buy the Fit and Flare dress at Saks. You can buy the peplum fitted dress at Express.

Jesseray and Garrett on Fashion Star

Jesseray Vasquez and Garrett Gerson – They were drawn to the 1950’s design aesthetic for the challenge. They are dong a sheath dress, and a bathing suit-inspired top and shorts. The halter top and shorts were so fun, but I really don’t know aobu tthe proportions. The wait is too short and the hem is too low. The dress is nice, although damn is it simple. And the pattern with the palms is kind of ugly. Saks bid on the sheath dress. The shorts and crop top was bid on by Macy’s. You can buy the sheath dress at Saks. You can buy the bustier and shorts at Macy’s.

“I hate polka dots.” – Nicole Richie (While wearing a polka dot top.)

“I love that he takes risks.” – Cassandra (About Daniel Silverstein, who benefits if he does badly…)

“Uh, my pattern, it’s like…missing.” – Cassandra

“I have always said you’re the girl that everyone wants to be.” – Jessica Simpson (about Cassandra Hobbins, who I can’t think of anyone I’d want to be less.)

Final Words

I’m happy with what went down, and I really hope Hunter Bell takes home the finale win! What do you think, do Daniel or Cassandra even stand a chance?
