Fashion on New Girl ‘Wedding’ Episode Praised – Zooey Deschanel Should Get Comfortable at Fox
| October 6, 2011 at 12:57 PM EDTThree episodes in, and we’re marking the Fox series New Girl (starring Zooey Deschanel as Jess Day) one of the best new Fall comedies of 2011. It’s quintessentially quirky, effectively upbeat, and damn stylish.

Zooey Deschanel is stylish in her personal life (and cotton commercials), so it wouldn’t surprise us if she has some input on the fashion in New Girl. We started our New Girl Fashion Guide when the pilot aired as a testament to how much we loved the styles featured on Jess. We have big, big love for series costume designer Debra McGuire and costume assistant Meredith Giangrande.
After the third episode “Wedding” we’ve had more than just a few requests about the one shoulder purple dress that Jess wears at the titular wedding. (Although we can’t help you with your slow motion chicken dance moves!) We, at first, suspected it was the Carmen Draped Dress (slightly tweaked) in purple by Alice + Olivia but have concluded that it was not. Humph!
Not only do we love the fashion on this show, it’s clear that fans are also digging it so much they want to copy the looks exactly as seen on screen.
Not willing to let all of your go without, we’ve found a few similar dresses you might like. The one we’re highlighting is by Max and Cleo. It’s a one shoulder “Purple Berry” dress made with chiffon. So, even though the dress doesn’t have an A-line skirt, the ruffled details and the chiffon material will give it the movement you want. You can find this dress at Zappos here.
There are two other dresses we saw that we can recommend. They have a price that you’ll probably like more than the Max and Cleo garment. They are both actually by Kensie. The first is fun and flirty, although we do worry it veers a bit too much towards being like a Bridesmaid dress. (At Dillards here.) The second dress has more of a sleeve than Jess’s, but it’s is a nice violet shade and has sweet details. It’s the Crepe One Shoulder Petal dress at Macy’s here.
Jess accessorized with a small ruched gold over the shoulder purse and a very thoughtfully placed hair comb. (And, okay, yes, fake teeth!)
Whatever the case we can conclude two things: New Girl fashion is beautiful, and you have excellent taste if you’re inspired by these pieces!
