We had opera on network TV, guys. That was a big deal.
You guys already know I’m a fan of Hannibal on NBC. It’s uber creepy, creative and certainly entertaining! (Watch it in the dark if you are brave.) When I got to take part in a conference call with Bryan Fuller and Hugh Dancy to promote the series, I jumped on that. And since the premiere on NBC, I’ve been watching every episode.
In the episode last week there was an opera singer. Immediately, I loved everything about her. Her Shirley Manson-esque pale skin and red hair. Her golden gown. Her voice. My God, that voice! Granted, I do love opera anyway. I find it beautiful and relaxing…. though I know some of you might find it to be pretentious or boring. But try taking a hot bath at night, with candles and some opera. It is the most relaxing experience ever. (Minus getting a massage from Ryan Gosling, because I imagine that would also be enjoyable.)
Now, back to the singer. She didn’t just sound like some angelic alien creature, she looked like a beautiful angelic otherworldly creature. (Kudos goes to the director of the episode, of course. The set design, costume designer and direction really helped make this moment work.)
I’ve since found out from my great Twitter friends (Follow me @ThisJessicaRae to be one!) that the opera singer was Emily Klassen. You can find her on twitter @Emily_Klassen.
Her talent is extraordinary. I wish amazing things for her in the future.
Hannibal airs Thursdays at 10 pm EST on NBC.
