She’s not the girl next door, but she plays one on TV. Ellen Wong plays the conservative Jill “Mouse” Thompson on The CW’s The Carrie Diaries. But in real life, Wong has some badass skills.
Much like Mouse, Ellen Wong has also felt pressure from her parents. For Ellen, her parents wanted her to ditch acting and pursue, “something else with more stability, like a doctor or lawyer.” But we’re so glad she didn’t’ give up on her first passion.
A Clothes Attraction
Mouse is basic about fashion, wearing lots of cardigans and simple patterns. Similarly, Ellen hasn’t always been so into fashion. While on the set of Scott Pilgrim Vs the World, the costume department would tell her that her basic jeans and hoodies were boring, and give her stuff to wear.
After graduating college, Wong traveled to Southeast Asia and visited Cambodia. This trip (seeing people doing so much just to survive a day) inspired her to quit her TV production job to focus on acting.
Though the character of Mouse Thompson might appear timid, Wong has trained in Tae Kwon Doe!
To play the part of Knives Chau in Scott Pilgrim vs the World, Wong cut off 12 inches of her hair!
We hope to get the chance to interview Ellen Wong in the future, and then we’ll have even more juicy goodies for you to learn about one of your favorite new heartthrobs on The CW!
The Carrie Diaries premieres this winter on The CW, starring Anna Sophia Robb. The executive producers are Miguel Arteta, Candace Bushnell, Len Goldstein, Amy B. Harris, Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz.
