The gore factor is way down in Dexter “The Angel of Death.” Which is a relief, because we needed a break from that seriously messed up imagery. Which is not to say this episode was all roses and puppies. (Although there was a particularly loyal dog…)

Mos as Brother Sam is terrific, and I really wanted to relax around his character in this episode. However, Brother Sam seemed uneasy. I’m glad that he was able to talk with Dexter, because it’s almost like spiritual guidance or therapy for Dex. Yes, I do wonder “what is Sam getting out of this?” that he is willing to hang out and counsel Dexter, but I think that some people just love to help others.

And the things Brother Sam says to Dexter really have seemed to affect our favorite serial killer. Dexter was trying to be so open and honest when talking to him out on the balcony, but you could see Dexter struggling in deciding how much of the truth to reveal. This was really well acted out, by the way.

Of course, now that Brother Sam has been shot (possibly killed, possibly not) this might send Dexter into a tail spin. How sweet is Brother Sam’s dog, btw?

Batista was right to warn Quinn away from the Professor, and not just because she is clearly infatuated with a cult-like personality that they are all but certain is guilty of these Doomsday Killer murders. It just crosses a line. I’ll never warm up to Quinn.

Deb … I want to fault for being a dumbass, but I somehow can’t. She’s always been a little scattered. Her fight with Jamie about Harrison and Jamie’s job responsibilities (I think Jamie is, in general, annoyed by Deb) was pretty golden. Especially when Dexter walked in and his voiceover had him wondering if he could just back out of the room.

Back to the Doomsday Killers… I have to say, did it seem weird to anyone else that Dexter had to confirm that the same little scrap of paper cut out from a giant Bible with the same red letters matched the ones cut out and included on the murder victims? What kind of coincidence would it be if he just happened to have the same numbers cut out?

Whats’s interesting is that Dexter lets Travis go, because for his code, if you didn’t murder anyone then you’re fine. Even if you’re an accessory to the murders. The cops don’t work like that. And at this point, Dexter (armed with all of the knowledge he has) is just playing God in not letting anyone else know who the killers are and how to find them. (And Geller is playing God, too.) This pisses me off. The more people who end up dead, I want to say that’s kinda on Dex. He needs to get a move on. And I suspect that the Brother Sam stuff will conveniently put his mind elsewhere, so he doesn’t focus on Geller.

All in all, this was a solid Dexter season 6 episode, although not the strongest of the season. What did you guys think? Is Dexter playing God, or not? Do you think that Travis has inspired Dexter to find out how Geller ‘talks with God’ and what that’s all about?
