Tonight Dancing with the Stars season 11 kicked off with movement and enthusiasm. Here’s my review of the first few dancers. I don’t have any hatordade going, don’t worry!
Audrina Patridge and Tony Dovolani: They danced the chacha to the Katy Perry “California Girls” song. Perfect song choice for Audrina. (Now I sound like I’m reviewing American Idol!) She has a very slim, great figure but that doesn’t mean she’s going to be the best dancer. Still, she’s in-shape. She moved, but every step looked like work. She was very unsure of herself for a lot of the moves. You can tell she did rehearse a lot, though. I’d like to see her having more fun and with a tiny bit more confidence. Bruno thought she was a “beautiful show pony that needs to be pushed to the limit.” Carrie Ann mentioned that Audrina has the right body for the show. (Oh God, I just added Audrina to my spellcheck dictionary. I feel dirty.)
Kurt Warner and Anna Trebunskaya: He’s not exactly graceful by nature as a quarterback, but he sure does fill out a suit nicely. Anna kind of bugs me and I’m not sure why. He’s very likable. There’s probably no way he’ll win this thing. But I think it’s cool he’s taken up this challenge, and I hope his family loves watching him. When he does done dancing he went and gave his wife a kiss – it was a very adorable moment.
Kyle Massey Lacey Schwimmer: No, I have no clue who he is. He’s not the biggest star we’ve got in this season. Their nerdy school outfits were really cute. They danced to that song “My First Kiss” by 3OH!3 which I am embarrassed to admit I enjoy. Massey was definitely having fun with the dancing. I liked it, as did Len. “You are like an adorable, naughty little puffin,” declared Bruno. I think he said that, did he?!
Rick Fox and Cheryl Burke : I only know him from a guest cameo he had on one of the few episodes of One Tree Hill I’ve watched. The issue with this pair is going to be that Rick Fox is so much taller than Cheryl Burke. She had 4″ heels made special for her. Rick Fox is 6’7″! He was also waltzing. I think the waltz dances are easiest for males. Interesting that so far 2/3 males have all gotten to waltz. They danced to “Crazy” by Aerosmith. It was kiiiinda boring and safe. Fox didn’t have to do much. But the judges did love it. And… did they flash on Eliza Dushku in the audience? Apparently so. My friend Ali on Twitter just said they’re dating. WHAT DO I KNOW? WHY DON’T I KNOW WHO IS DATING? Pft!
Margaret Cho and Louis Van Amsel: I love Cho. GOTTA love the Cho! She was actually teary before the dance started. The crowd really cheered for this pair. She used her humor with a funny gold cape, but she’s also got a touching backstory about being called “the fattest ballerina.” I really will root for this duo. It’s entertaining and there’s also real effort being put forth. Carrie noted that it was an overly dramatic performance for a waltz. Len hated the antics. He also said he thinks she can probably dance very well.
Can’t wait until Castle airs later tonight.
