Stepping into a part for a character that might be “gut like a fish,” Courtney Ford has joined the cast of The Vampire Diaries.

Courtney Ford will be seen in The Vampire Diaries season 2.

You may remember Courtney Ford from Dexter as Trinity’s daughter, Vicky in “The Naked Man” episode of How I Met Your Mother, or the woman often photographed with Brandon Routh – because she’s his wife. Now Ford is moving on to The CW’s hit show The Vampire Diaries. The role she’s nabbed is that of Vanessa. The casting call from Explore Talent said the role was for, “A very gorgeous, brilliant, young grad student who helps Damon and Alaric with their werewolf research at Alaric’s alma mater, Duke University.”

At Comic-Con, series creator, Kevin Williamson said that Vanessa might, or might not, be a reoccurring character. It likely will depend on how the character is received and how the stories unfold. Plus, we know that The Vampire Diaries wants to hold onto an air of mystery.

Williamson told Ausiello of Entertainment Weekly that, “She’s not without her own intrigue. It’ll be a nice little part for someone. And it’s a part that could evolve into this massive story line or we could gut her like a fish.”

Essentially quoting his own movie with that popular fish phrase, Scream (the original) Williamson does seem to have a love for the macabre.
