Butterfingers are great, and Charisma Carpenter is great. So where’s the bad? Read on to see if we’re going to be pessimists today.
So, Butterfinger and G4 have teamed up to create the Butterfinger Defense League (who knew the candy even needed defending?) A nationwide search is going on to find a fourth member to add to the three they already have: Charisma Carpenter, Erik Estrada and Lou Ferrigno. Icons, all. Attractive… mostly just the one.
Do you want to be part of the Butterfinger Defense League (BFDL)? Two finalists will win a VIP trip to Comic-Con this year, but the winner gets $20,000 and becomes the fourth member of the BFDL. And…we have no clue what that involves, but you might have to live in a secret chamber underground.
Two semi-finalists who best demonstrate an ability to ensure “Nobody’s Gonna Lay A Finger On My Butterfinger!” will win a VIP trip to Comic-Con International on July 21-25. The lucky semi-finalists will meet the current members of the Butterfinger Defense League, Erik Estrada, Lou Ferrigno and Charisma Carpenter, and G4’s “Attack of the Show!” hosts Olivia Munn and Kevin Pereira, during G4’s live coverage of the event.
Viewers are encouraged to submit an audition video for the Butterfinger Defense League Challenge video contest at G4tv.com/ButterfingerDefenseLeague, spotlighting a unique ability that would make them a great defender and a perfect fit for the BFDL.
Submissions will be evaluated based on creativity, technical merit, and best use of a Butterfinger to determine who would best complement the existing members. The two finalists will head to Comic-Con, where “Attack of the Show!”’s Olivia and Kevin along with the BFDL members will crown one finalist an honorary member of the Butterfinger Defense League and award them a $20,000 grand prize.
What are they doing to our precious TV icons? (Scroll down to take the poll!)
So, that’s the news about this. And now, here’s my opinion. Charisma Carpenter was chosen because she’s proven to be a famous defender as Cordelia Chase on Angel the Series (she wasn’t doing much defending on Buffy the Vampire Slayer). Okay. I understand that angle. So she’s kind of the token hottie of this threesome. Granted, Olivia Munn makes G4 cool… but somehow…I still don’t like the idea of Carpenter having to stoop to this, acting as a has-been.
She’ll always be Cordelia Chase, and would Cordelia be proud of this decision? I mean, the colors of the Butterfinger Defense League costumes are hideous! We think Charisma is better than this, and unless she’s truly just having fun and isn’t just in it for the money rather than true passion for the project (I can hardly type that without rolling my eyes, how can you have passion for Butterfinger superheroes!?) then I wish she’d do anything else than this. And she actually is. Carpenter has two movies coming up! So…was this all just for fun? And am I just not getting the joke? Will it get funnier as it goes on? Or do we need Faith Lehane or Anya to come around and put “Cordelia” in front of a mirror for a reality check?
I thought maybe the Charisma Carpenter Butterfinger video might sway me. …But no. The Lady Gaga dogs are cute, and Carpenter is certainly a gorgeous actress, but the writing made no sense and the “funny” seemed force.
And after all of this Butterfinger promotion? …I just want a Snickers.
