All about Captain Dearduff the Hooker (How I Met Your Mother) from True and Real Ghost Stories
| October 29, 2013 at 4:48 PM EDTThere’s one room you always want to avoid, and it’s not what you’re thinking – those honeymoon suite rooms have thick walls, you won’t hear anything. HOWEVER, you should always avoid room…13. Especially at the Farhampton Inn.

He’s smiling because he just won $50 in a bet! And he no longer has a star, heart and clover floating in his stomach.
See, Marshall and Lily on How I Met Your Mother got the dreaded room 13 at the Farhampton Inn during their stay for Barney and Robin’s wedding.
And as everyone knows, there’s a ghost in room 13. His name is…”Captain Blazbey Dearduff or, Dearduff the Hooker.” You can watch a special on the Ghost Network all about it. It’s called, “True and Real Ghost Stories of the Supernatural.”
It all happened in 1843…. He had a sharpened hook for one hand. And that very hook was his own undoing, as it got stuck in a wall when he was standing outside a chilly window.
Now, guests say they can hear the, “thump of his peg leg and the scrape of his hook.”
“If Dearduff does manifest, you know the proper way to harvest ectoplasm, right?” – Marshall to Lily
The production values of the special were low, though we can assume the ratings were high.
You’ll see:
- A boom in the way.
- The narrator’s voice is almost too raspy and hilarious.
- Seeing Ron the snow effects guy
- A woman (Carrie Friedman) dubbed over saying she doesn’t believe in ghosts. “There are… OVERLAY…such things as ghosts!”
Now, there are also some rumors that the Captain was just a, “popular male prostitute who died of syphillis.”
“GHOSTS DON’T EXIST, MARSHALL.” – Lily
