I don’t really watch American Idol, but I saw the last ten minutes of the episode on Wednesday, May 5th. I really wish I’d watched the entire episode! Luckily, we have in our network a great American Idol website that can catch me up.
With Harry Connick Jr. as the mentor, the contestants really worked their jazzy Frank Sinatra songs. I loved the banter that Ellen and Harry had – especially the bit about his organ. Ahhh. All along, I’ve believed that Crystal Bowersox will win. But that doesn’t make for a very interesting season. Luckily, there’s Lee Dewyze. Because what’s a competition without any actual…competition!
I love Crystal’s voice, but didn’t love her song interpretation for “Summer Wind” all that much. She was criticized about it a bit, and she went toe to toe with the judges by being polite and listening, and then when it was her turn to have a rebuttal, she was well-spoken and far more intelligent than I think Simon wants any of the contestants to be. “I don’t think I should sing really big notes just because I’m on American Idol,” Crystal said.
Lee was the star of the night, performing “That’s Life” to perfection. One of the barriers for Lee is that he lacks confidence. Kara pointed this out, and I think confidence will be key for him – no matter if he wins or not. I wish you could just buy tablets of confidence and take them, because it is not easy to have, or keep. Check out the more detailed recap here.
