Another new ABC series coming to the primetime lineup this fall is Better Together, a show about three vastly different relationships going on for one family. This comedy looks very cute, and it’ll slap you with insights into your own life when you aren’t looking. Very tricky!

Better Together stars JoAnna Garcia, Jennifer Finnigan, Josh Cooke, Jake Lacy, Kurt Fuller and Debra Jo Rupp. It’s based on two sisters with very different styles of relationships with their significant other. The show will also feature their parents, as well. One of the sisters has been with her guy for 15 years, but isn’t married. The other gets married after just a few months of being with hers. See the difference? Do I need to make a pie chart? It wouldn’t be a problem, I LOVE making pie charts.

Better Together seems to put the focus on whether it’s better to be a a Type A person with plans, or a Type B person with no plans. I have a guess that there’s no right answer here, and that sometimes it’s better to be one type over the other on the show. In reality, we know it’s best to walk a line down the middle. Of course, that doesn’t mean we all do. Who else here is more of a Type A, planner? Do you use Google Calendar? Fess up! Raise your hands with me! What will be interesting is to see which couple you associate with, vs which you like better.

Better Together Synopsis: Maddie and Ben have been dating for nine years. They know each other inside and out, a relationship marked by contentment and affection, seeing their commitment to one another as a “valid life choice,” something they proclaim often — and often loudly. Maddie’s younger sister, Mia, has been dating Casey for seven weeks. With a shared c’est la vie attitude, Mia and Casey are smitten with each other, and thrilled to explore the oh-so-many things they don’t know about each other yet. But when they announce they’re getting married and having a baby, it’s news that throws Maddie for a loop. Surprisingly, the girls’ parents, Vicky and Joel, couldn’t be more pleased. Married 35 years, they have recently adopted a carpe diem sort of philosophy, rather like Mia’s, maybe because they’re getting older and lost a good portion of their savings when the economy tanked. With three very different relationships tightly intertwined in one family, will it be free thinkers vs. over-thinkers, or will each couple begin to see things a little bit differently?

Better Together Cast: “Better Together” stars JoAnna Garcia (Gossip Girl, Privileged) as Mia, Jennifer Finnigan (Close to Home, Crossing Jordan, Committed) as Maddie, Josh Cooke (Committed, Four Kings) as Ben, Jake Lacy as Casey, with Kurt Fuller (Supernatural) as Joel and Debra Jo Rupp (That 70’s Show) as Vicky.

The promo clears up a few things about who the couples are, and it also shows the the series will be not a drama, as I’d suspected, but more of a comedy. I still think it looks cute and watchable. And we get to see Zachariah (Kurt Fuller)  from Supernatural again!
