Being Human Season 2 Spoilers – New Breeds of Monsters
| January 3, 2012 at 10:25 PM ESTThe Being Human showrunners talked about seaosn 2 of the series that premieres on SyFy this January.
Vampires, Werewolves, Ghosts, oh my! If we’ve learned anything from this show, Boston is chock full of the supernatural, and this season on Being Human, we learn a lot more about all three types of monsters.
First there are the vampires. As you may have heard, those guys tend to live a loooong time, so their politics are understandably complicated. And this season, Aidan (Sam Witwer) gets pushed into the mix quite a bit. We will learn how their infrastructure works and will still be dealing with The Dutch, including recurring guest star Terry Kinney who plays Hegeman.
Josh (Sam Huntington) is introduced to a group of werewolves who are trying to be wolves all the time. Unlike Josh, who is trying to being as human as possible at all times, this group thinks that being a wolf is their true natural state. Creators, Anna Fricke and Jeremy Carver wanted to use this storyline to, “explore the idea of monsters who don’t view themselves as monsters.” They likened this group to the transgender community – a group that feels they are trapped in the wrong body. I’m very excited to see how this group changes Josh’s perspective on things, if at all.
As we saw in season 1, there are plenty of ghosts making their way around Boston, especially in the bowels of the creepy hospital where Sam and Aidan work and this season Sally (Meaghan Rath) is introduced to even more of them. We will see that there is a form of politics amongst the ghosts and now that Sally didn’t go through her door, she will have to deal with the issues of those politics.
You may have noticed there seem to be one or two (million) other supernatural shows on the air nowadays, so there is always the issue of keeping the lore fresh and new, especially that of the vampires. Carver and Fricke talked to me in a conference call and said that they always just approach the genre aspects – werewolf, vampire, and ghost alike – in a way that makes sense and seems true to them. And I think it’s working so far!
To stay up to date on all the new species of monsters being introduced this season, be sure to watch Being Human on SyFy, premiering Monday, January 16 at 9pm. Sam Witwer, Sam Huntington and Meaghan Rath star in this SyFy series.
