Becki Newton’s new show Love Bites should use more of those Sex and the City Brains
| July 6, 2010 at 6:08 PM EDTBecki Newton just turned 32 on July 4th, and in addition to having an upcoming new series for NBC, is also pregnant with her first child. Huzzah! Of course, there are a few hiccups that are now happening.
Becki Newton, newly pregnant, will soon find out that babies bite. Especially the cute ones.
Newton’s new show, Love Bites, is now being pushed to a mid-season show. While Us Magazine says that Newton will be shooting for the series through her pregnancy, we’ve seen NBC say otherwise. Filming a pregnant woman for the virgin character might be a stretch.
That second hiccup would be that Newton’s co-star, Jordana Spiro has pulled out of the show to stay with My Boys. The series might not be recasting for Spiro’s part, instead focusing just on Newton’s character. Based on the trailer, we weren’t that interested in Spiro’s character. So…maybe that’s a good thing?

A third and final hiccup is that Cindy Chupack has stepped away from the series as an executive producer, but will still be a writer. Her lack of confidence is not inspiring. But we’re still not giving up on this show, it has too much promise! We’d like to see SATC alum’s Jenny Bicks, Darren Star, Liz Tuccillo and Antonia Ellis on board all on board. If this same grouping of talented SATC people can get together to try again (Men in Trees was SO CLOSE to outstanding), that’d be the makings for some truly worthwhile, can’t-miss TV.
Michael Patrick King is noticeably not on our list, because he seems to want to focus on movies, and he has the main writing credits for both of the awful Sex and the City movie’s. Maybe he needs a break. We surely need a break from him.
