Welcome, esteemed ladies and er, adequate gentlemen. Archer season 2 is currently being served by Twentieth Century Fox on DVD and Blu-ray. We recommend it with a nice bottle of bubbly. Shortly, your in-flight entertainment will begin – as Archer season 3 premieres on FX next week.

Archer Review: Season 2 DVD

If you find you enjoy quality comedic entertainment with an edge, then liking Archer is a natural step. And, cheap though it may seem, the names of the people involved with the show will take you the next several steps you need to become an Archer addict. I’ll offer up the celebrity credentials, but only while mentioning that I’d watch this show no matter who was involved. (This isn’t to say that the names don’t bring some serious talent to this playground. Because they do.)

Sterling Mallory Archer (H. Jon Benjamin) is a selfish secret agent who’s great at his job but not great at being a fellow human of the earth. His mother is the powerful Mallory Archer (Jessica Walter) who runs the spy agency, ISIS. Also working at ISIS is timid Cyril Figgis (Chris Parnell), nosy Cheryl (Judy Greer), loud Dr. Krieger (Lucky Yates), annoying Pam Poovey (Amber Nash), golden boy Ray Gillette (Adam Reed) and bombshell badass Lana Kane (Aisha Tyler.) Archer also has a butler named Woodhouse (George Coe) who is pretty fantastic.

The cast and creators of Archer have always extended themselves to helping promote the show (I’ve gotten to talk with the dynamic Tyler, Walter and Parnell when season 1 was premiering on FX) so it’s a bit of a mystery why the special features are so sorely lacking. Of course, when you have such a solid presentation and package with your actual product, the extras truly are superfluous. It’d be nice to have some commentaries, yes, but maybe everyone was busy. (Boom, I excuse you all but also encourage you to do commentaries for season 3, pretty please.)

A Very ARCHER Christmas for Archer Season 3

If you’re still not convinced that Archer is worth a watch, do it for the Arrested Development connections. There’s not just Jessica Walter and Judy Greer – Jeffrey Tambor voices Len Drexler. Later, David Cross. I mean, COME ON. (The title of this piece mentions Arrested Development only to bring in more fans, not because I lack faith in what Archer is on its own merit.)

But also, here are some Archer quotes that will win you over:

Archer: Lana, I’m in love with you.
Lana: You are also shitfaced.
Archer: I can be both!

Archer: You’re just doing this to spite me.
Lana: And?

Archer: They said I can eat and drink until midnight.
Mallory: Alcohol?
Archer: Uh, the stuff they use to sterilize hospitals? Pretty sure it’s okay.

Archer: Even for Lana this is over the line. She’s gonna wish I was never born.
